Senior Maintenance & Facilities TechnicianUnder the direction of the Supervisor, ORC Facilities, the Senior Maintenance & Facilities Technician is a pivotal figure within our team, bringing an extensive knowledge of steam boilers, HVAC systems, electrical systems, water treatment systems, and other infrastructures and utilities.The Senior Maintenance & Facilities Technician is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all physical utilities and facility infrastructures to ensure smooth Operations. This role encompasses supporting the installation, commissioning, and validation of new facility and production equipment to meet STERIS's evolving needs. The Senior Technician will carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on all facility systems including structural, mechanical, electrical, utilities, life safety, and plumbing, while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all assigned systems. This role requires leadership skills, initiative, and the ability to guide and train junior technicians. There will be up to 20% travel required for this position to facilities in Chattanooga TN, Pittsburgh PA, and Charlotte NC. This position will be based in Durham NC on the 10pm-6:30am shift, with variable shifts when traveling to the other sites.
What you will do as a Senior Maintenance & Facilities Technican Ensure full adherence to 29 CFR 1910 OSHA General Industrial Safety Standards and 29 CFR 1926 Construction Safety Standards for facility services staff and supervised contracted service personnel. Perform and lead preventative and corrective maintenance on machines, equipment, plant facilities, and grounds to ensure continuous operation and production capabilities. Can be available to respond to maintenance calls off shift if assistance is needed and must be available for overtime as needed. Acts as a back-up in the absence of the Supervisor. Exhibit an internal auditor’s mindset, consistently monitoring and evaluating systems and processes to ensure top quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance, including solving complex operational issues, testing equipment, developing and executing plans & providing insights regarding maintenance issues. Lead inspections, troubleshooting, and repair of all systems necessary for maintaining Operations, and coordinate and oversee contractors and service vendors performing contracted work. Ensure strict compliance with all company policies and procedures, especially those involving safety and quality, including adherence to regulatory body standards and GMP/GDP best practices. Document all performed work, inspections, and maintenance activities in the CMMS (eMaint) to maintain accurate records and quality compliance. Support the installation, testing, and validation of new production equipment. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, actively seeking and promoting professional and personal development opportunities within the team. Train and educate junior members across the STERIS organization. Perform any other functions and tasks as assigned, and delegate responsibilities appropriately. The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of experience. Significant Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) system experience or related military specialty (5+ years) Proven experience independently troubleshooting and evaluating complex equipment failures (3+ years) Strong reading, writing, and math skills. In-depth knowledge of technical, building operations, complex mechanical systems, and facilities management best practices Extensive experience reading and interpreting documents such as maintenance instructions, manuals, prints, mechanical blueprints, and electrical/pneumatic schematics (3+ years) Ability to read and interpret advanced regulatory and safety guidelines applicable to the industry (3+ years) Proficient in using complex computer programs, including email, project management or maintenance software, and spreadsheets Must possess a valid driver's License. Ability to obtain forklift, aerial lift, and other powered lift system qualifications Preferred Skills and Experience Associate's degree, Vocational or Technical Certification in the relevant field Extensive experience in a healthcare/cleanroom or manufacturing environment (GMP) (3+ years) In-depth experience with CMMS (2+ years) In addition to the technical skills, the ideal candidate is a leader with a proactive attitude, exceptional problem-solving abilities, excellent attention to detail, and a strong commitment to upholding the company's values and standards. Pay range for this opportunity is $29.81 - $41.77.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
