Job Summary A job is available in Supply Operations for a Senior Maintenance Mechanic working in the Putnam & Mianus Water Treatment Plants (WTP). This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of a variety of equipment that supply, treat, pump, store, and distribute water. Application of knowledge in water treatment process, PLC based control systems, and mechanical concepts is imperative to ensure a high-quality product while maintaining economic efficiencies. Principal Responsibilities + Evaluate, plan, and execute all mechanical functions necessary to modify, dismantle, repair, overhaul, and rebuild all types of plant machinery and equipment. Must be able to operate, troubleshoot and maintain treatment plant chemical feed systems, various electrical and electronic equipment such as instrumentation, motors and motor controls, HVAC and standby power systems. + Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and control system shop drawings and blueprints in order to execute new project construction and modifications to existing mechanical and electrical systems. Setup and operate all types of shop tools such as mills, lathes, grinders, + Must have the ability to perform all types of building maintenance such as plumbing, roofing and lighting. Operate a diverse assortment of mechanical and electrical tools, including test and calibration equipment, pneumatic tools, cutting, hand, and power tools . + Ensure all activities are in compliance with company and regulator mandated procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines including working knowledge of OSHA regulations as applied to construction and maintenance . + Perform project management as assigned including oversight and direction of contractors. Maintain accurate and complete records of work performed; enter and retrieve data utilizing SAP maintenance program, prepare written reports of work completed. + Perform related duties as required or requested and, in a manner consistent with the Company’s mission and values. + Must be available for emergency and scheduled work outside normal business hours including weekends and holidays. + Provide oversight and support for the sludge residuals operation at the Putnam & Mianus WTP’s. + Provide oversight and support for the Greenwich & Darien system generator PM program. + Provide maintenance support for the Putnam & Mianus WTP’s working with the plant operations staff. + PROBLEM SOLVING: (Situations are identical; similar; differing; variable; non-recurring). Problems are variable and recurring. + ACCOUNTABILITY: (Assist others, share responsibility, fully responsible, direct others. Also, if applicable, state dollar volume of assets controlled, and number of people supervised, directly and indirectly). Preferred Requirements + Incumbent must possess mechanical aptitude, organizational ability, and effective communications skills, both oral and written. + Incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation & control systems, and a proven ability to apply this knowledge to pump stations, treatment plants, well stations and other operating facilities. + Candidate must be able to perform a variety of duties related to the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of equipment and facilities that supply, treat, pump, store and distribute water. Excellent diagnostic skills are required as situations can be complex and non-recurring. Must be able to identify recurring and non-recurring operating conditions and maintenance needs and make necessary repairs and adjustments. + Minimum of eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance of mechanical, electrical and control systems. Education/Certifications + Water Treatment and/or Distribution license (Class III or higher), certification for HVAC, electrical, electronics, or plumbing licenses required. + Educational requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent. + Incumbent must hold and maintain a valid State of CT license to operate a motor vehicle. Salary + Job is classified as an hourly Grade 10, with a rate range that has a training wage of $41.63 per hour, until the chosen applicant obtains relevant license. + If the chosen applicant already holds relevant license, position is posted as a Grade 11 with a training wage of $43.15 per hour. + Successful applicant will move through Steps 1 through 9 of the range at 6-month intervals with satisfactory performance to the maximum salary. + This is a full-time, benefit-eligible union role with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 3:30PM.
