Your role and responsibilities

ABB's Distribution Solutions Division provides utility, industrial and commercial customers with safe, smart, and sustainable technologies for the distribution of electricity. With ABB Ability™ enabled digital solutions at its core, our extensive portfolio includes distribution automation products, switching, limiting, measuring, and sensing devices, switchgear, modular substation packages, and related services.As a Maintenance Machinist Worker, your role will be responsible for manual lathe/milling operations including drilling, boring, and broaching. Conventional milling and lathe work using various lathes including vertical mills, surface grinders, torches, MiG, tig, and stick welders. In your role, you will work with design/manufacturing engineers for product design, parts for the shop as well as molds. Also, in your role you will be responsible for helping maintain production equipment and preventative maintenance on such equipment.

Qualifications for the role

Main Accountabilities:\tExecutes the assigned work according to agreed workflows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines. \tResponds to emergencies/breakdowns. Reports for records all recurring problems with machinery, equipment and parts that can be identified and addressed using machine shop equipment \tEnsures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on shop equipment, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.\tLocates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.\tRemoves defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.\tDetermines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.\tControls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.\tFabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment such as welders and surface grinders, manual lathes, and manual milling machines. \tMaintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.\tConserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.\tProvides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.\tMaintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.\tMaintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.\tMaintains safe and clean working environment by complying with 5-S, procedures, rules, and regulations.\tContributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.\tAdheres to the health, safety and environmental guidelines and directives to ensure safety of people and resources. Dimensions:\tThis position requires thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and standard practices in the industrial machinist/mechanic field of expertise.\tThe individual must have the ability to work from plans, blueprints, sketches, models, and oral or written instructions, and to exercise judgment in determining techniques. \tThe individual must be able to troubleshoot on various machines, processes and procedures and communicate with all levels of people and customers. \tIt is critical that the individual in this role is a leader, good listener, problem solver and can make recommendations or solutions. Challenges: \tFollow standard practices and procedures in resolving basic and complex problems. \tDecisions are usually based on established precedents and may affect quality and accuracy to a degree. \tErrors may result in lost time and rework.Knowledge, Skills, Experience:\tRequires an associate degree or diploma in machining process. Or 8 years’ experience \tAbility to work from blueprints, sketches, models and oral or written instructions and to exercise judgment in determining techniques and methods to be used.\tTechnical understanding and familiarity with all machine shop equipment\tComputer literate and Microsoft Office Products.\tUnderstanding a manufacturing environment and terminology.\tStrong sense of customer urgency.\tMust be a self-starter and willing to learn all positions.\tRequired to wear steel toe safety shoes and safety glasses.\tA team player and work daily using ABB core values: “Respect, Responsibility and Determination”
