Introduction to role:

Our R&D groups are unified in their approach and united in their purpose, working both independently and together. With shared functions specializing in key scientific capabilities from medicinal chemistry to biometrics, patient safety to data science and artificial intelligence (AI), and clinical innovation to device technology, we accelerate discovery and development in our efforts to bring new medicines to patients.

Accountabilities:

The R&D Communications Senior Manager will support Global Corporate Affairs to help tell the R&D story externally, uncovering, developing, and delivering opportunities to showcase the great science and outstanding people we have in our teams. This will help position AstraZeneca as the best science-led organization in the industry and the partner and employer of choice.

The role will involve working closely with R&D scientists – from discovery to development, as well as Global Corporate Affairs colleagues, supporting campaigns across digital, social, and traditional media to bring the science of drug discovery and development to life. The content and stories you support must resonate with a wide range of primarily external audience groups including collaborators, recruits, and media.

Essential Skills/Experience:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a communications related role

Established track record of supporting impactful, content-rich science communications across multiple channels and stakeholders with proven measures of success

Must have a bachelor's degree

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships

Possess a sense of urgency; is self-motivated, detail-minded, with a strong ability to multi-task

Proactive approach in resolving problems and issues

Ability to work in a global environment including understanding of cultural differences

Exemplary native English-level written and verbal communications skills

Team worker with high level of personal accountability

Desirable Skills/Experience:

Experience of working in matrix organizations across multiple teams

Experience working with senior leaders and external partners

Entrepreneurial approach and desire to challenge the status quo

Strong channel management, digital skills, and knowledge of technology options

Able to develop and maintain networks across business and cultural boundaries

Experience in the pharmaceutical industry

Total Rewards

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $115,577.60 to $173,366.40. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
