This is by no means a “behind-the-scenes" role, as your work will help the company serve patients daily in a multitude of ways.
The Senior Manager of Data Strategy and Engineering plays a crucial role in driving the company’s data strategy for our behavioral health hospital system. This role is responsible for overseeing the architecture, engineering, and operational management of data solutions that enhance patient care, optimize hospital operations, and support data-driven decision-making. This individual will dedicate 50% of their time as a hands-on Data Engineer working on Azure Data Services in the cloud, while also leading a team of Data Engineers and Data Architect to develop and implement scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Data Strategy & Leadership:
Advocate for Data-Driven Culture: Promote a culture where data-driven decision-making is the norm and where data is recognized as a critical asset Refinement and execution of our data strategy aligned with business and clinical objectives. Lead, mentor, and manage the Data Strategy team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. Partner with cross-functional teams including IT, clinical leadership, and business stakeholders to identify and implement data solutions that drive operational efficiencies and improved patient outcomes. Oversee adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards, particularly in a healthcare setting. Vendor and Partnership Management: Collaborate with cross-functional partners and manage technology and consulting vendors impacting the data warehouse, master data management (MDM), and data and analytics ecosystem.Project Management:
Lead Data-Related Projects: Oversee the planning and execution of key data-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. Provide weekly updates using the established project framework Ensure project hours are accurately trackedHands-on Data Engineering:
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses using Azure Data Services (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Azure Databricks, etc.). Oversee optimization of data storage and processing architectures for scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency. Ensure data quality, lineage, and reliability across all analytics and reporting platforms. Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business users to enable self-service analytics and reporting. Troubleshoot and resolve complex data engineering and infrastructure issues.Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field). Advanced degree in data science, business administration, or a related life sciences discipline is favorable. 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or data architecture, preferably in a healthcare setting. 2+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, with a proven track record of leading technical teams. Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Services including Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, and SQL-based data solutions or equivalent Experience with MDM concepts and platforms and SQL-based data warehouse design Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to lead in an environment with multiple cross-functional stakeholders and evolving priorities Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, which may include working occasional evenings and weekends.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with healthcare data sources (EHRs, HL7, FHIR, claims, etc.) and knowledge of healthcare data privacy regulations (HIPAA, HITRUST). Experience with AI/ML-driven analytics and predictive modeling in healthcare. Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization tools. Knowledge of data lakehouse architectures and modern cloud data strategies. Understanding of behavioral health data and clinical workflows.What’s in it for you:

Compensation starting range for the Sr Manager, Data Strategy & Engineering role is $155,000 to $171,000. Ranges are based upon market expectations and are dependent upon candidate experience.
