Collins is a world leader in wireless communications networking, with products such as high-data-rate HF/VHF/UHF modems and the Self Configuring Relay Network (SCRN) for ad-hoc wireless networks.  We are developing the next generation of HF radios that support significant throughput improvements and ad-hoc networking features, as well as developing Software Defined Radio networking waveforms for customers around the world.    

 
Reporting to the Associate Director, Engineering, this position is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling responsibilities for a team of engineers, ensuring successful overall performance of the department (including technical, cost, schedule, design to cost, product integrity and manufacturability).  

What You Will Do: 

Lead a small team of engineers, managing individual contributing technical talent, actively supporting employee performance and development  Responsible for tactical execution of day-to-day operations. Leverages advanced principles, theories, and concepts of complex technical subjects to provide direction for employees. Assigns technical resources to work tasks and approves work scope for assigned portion of overall program.  Ensure compliance to development processes and work requirements.  May oversee development work performed by third party partners or subcontract labor.  Oversee and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success.  Primary point of contact for Technical Project and Program Management on technical or engineering resource issue resolution.  May also serve as primary engineering focal point to the customer.  Minimal Travel required for the role, approximately <5%.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experienceMust be a Canadian Citizen.Must hold or be eligible for a Government of Canada security clearance up to the Secret level and access to controlled goods. 

Qualifications We Prefer:

Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership role is highly preferred.Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization, spoken and written. Builds strong internal and external networks. Demonstrates sound judgment in making technical and business decisions. Has full knowledge of the software life cycle including definition, requirement analysis and design, implementation, validation and support. With a strong technical background, is able to direct work and mentor people in the following areas:   Software System design and development in in both Windows and Linux; C/C++ and real-time embedded computer architectures; Object Oriented programming, networking and wireless communication protocols, communications concepts.
