Job Description
Kite is seeking a Senior Manager, EHS&S candidate to be a part of our RDMC EHS team in Santa Monica CA. This role reports directly to the RDMC’s Director of EHS, Sustainability, Crisis Management and Security for RDMC.
The Sr. Manager, Environment, Health, & Safety, (EHS&S) will provide leadership for the implementation of EHS standards & procedures, expert technical assistance on EHS issues and will partner with functional leadership on compliance, project management, reporting matters and related EHS management issues. This role will actively participate on the site leadership team in the areas of planning, EHS governance, auditing, management systems, best practice sharing, compliance initiatives, governmental/regulatory reporting and site security. Primary purpose of this position is to grow the safety culture to achieve world class EHS&S performance. Effectively execute strategy to elevate Kite’s safety and environmental performance to world-class levels.
Specific Responsibilities:
Provides vision, leadership and guidance in Site Safety, Personal Health Safety, Biosafety, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Regulatory compliance setting clear goals and expectations
Leads the day-to-day activities of the Safety Management Programs as well as participate and contribute to Kite’s EHS Global Network supporting our sites
Lead RDMC’s Safety, Environmental, Security and Sustainability councils
Develops site standards, procedures and practices for the Safety Management Program based on best available scientific evidence and professional judgment
Develops and maintains the Kite EHS Management Systems (EHSMS)
Performs risk assessments to identify areas of potential exposure and the corrective and preventive actions required to minimize work related injuries or illnesses
Develops and leads ILT Safety and Compliance training programs
Ensures leading indicator metrics and tools are being utilized to reduce risks and prevent injuries and illnesses
Collaborates with Kite EHS Network to enable development and implementation of company best practice for safety programs
Supports senior leadership in creating and implementing mid to long term strategy and operating plans for safety
Basic Qualifications:
Advanced scientific degree OR
Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience in EHS OR
Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience in EHS OR
Associate’s degree with 10+ years of experience in EHS OR
High School Degree with 12+ years of experience in EHS
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
Advanced knowledge of occupational safety programs and possess active professional certification (e.g., CIH, CS, ASP, CSM or equivalent)
Demonstrated managerial experience of EHS organizations and people leadership
Strong focus on behavioral safety and employee engagement
Ability to influence up and down in an organization
Ability to travel up to 10%
Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with local policies and safety requirements
Compliance reporting for all environmental, health and safety activities as per Federal (OSHA and EPA), State, and local EHS requirements.
Plan-Promote a Zero Injury Safety Culture: Provide leadership and coaching to grow the site leadership team, plant operations, plant safety committee, and EHS direct reports, to create a workplace free of recognized hazards, promote safe work behaviors, and foster a lean safety culture that keeps the safety of employees a business value.
Work with management to manage employee’s workers compensation claims and work assignments.
Experience developing and monitoring budget expenditures
Extensive knowledge of industry leading best practices in occupational safety programs
Familiarity with pharma, biopharma or cell therapy manufacturing practices
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential in this collaborative work environment
Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly fluid company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
Able to express ideas and present information effectively to Kite leadership, within team functions, and with external partners
Ability to think critically with demonstrated troubleshooting and analytical skills
