Purpose

As part of the wider regional Enterprise Risk team, the role holder will be responsible on a regional basis for environmental, social and governance risk management.

 

There is ever increasing focus on ESG risks and opportunities within the Bank and from customers, investors, regulators and society at large.  The Senior Manager will be a key contributor in the development and continued enhancement of frameworks and processes to identify, assess, measure, manage, monitor and report on the Bank’s environmental, social and governance risk exposures.  The Senior Manager will be the teams’ subject matter expert in environmental, social and governance risk. The individual is therefore expected to have an interest and knowledge in these areas. 

 

Accountabilities

 

This role is a European wide role, responsible for ESG risk management for both Ireland and the UK.

 

Responsible for implementing the ESG risk management framework, including policies, procedures and controls.

 

Stay updated on regulatory developments and industry trends related to ESG risk management. Responsible for ESG related regulatory horizon scanning, conducting gap analyses and keeping the regulatory library up to date.

 

Responsible for monitoring and reporting ESG related matters to senior management and/or relevant committees.

 

Ensure that the exposure to environmental risk including climate risk, social risk and governance risk is consistent with its risk appetite.

 

Develops and provides training in relation to ESG risks and local regulatory expectations.

 

Support the business lines and other control and corporate functions in the implementation of the Bank’s ESG risk frameworks and policies.

 

Responsible for stress testing and scenario development with respect to ESG risks including for the ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan, and Reverse Stress Testing.

 

Responsible for delivery of specific sections related to ESG risks of relevant financial and prudential documents including Pillar 3 and ICAAP.

 

Responsible for related CSRD activities including the Double Materiality Assessment.

 

Liaising with counterparts in Head Office to better understand the extent of the Bank’s ESG risk program, its application to meet the UK and Ireland regulatory expectations, and advocate for solutions in addressing any gaps.

 

Participate in relevant projects including the EU ESG Regulations project.

 

Drive continuous improvement in ESG risk management practices.

 

Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

Contributes to a high-performance environment and fosters an inclusive work environment, supporting the vision/values/business strategy for the team.

Dimensions

 

This role is located in Dublin and reports to the Directors, Enterprise Risk in SIDAC and in BNS London and is part of the wider regional Enterprise Risk team. Enterprise Risk in Dublin and London is supported by the global ERM team which also provides advice and counsel to ensure alignment across the Group.

 

This is a high-profile role with interactions with a range of functions within and outside SIDAC and BNS London, including local C-suite positions, internal audit, local management committees and representation of local perspectives in global group forums.

 

Education / Experience

 

The Senior Manager is expected to be knowledgeable on climate change risk methodologies and standards insofar as they are relevant for the financial services industry. They will also be expected to be familiar with regulatory expectations including disclosure requirements and developing industry standards and build relationships with peers in other institutions to keep up with industry developments. Has an undergraduate in a relevant discipline. At least 3 years of relevant work experience, ideally within large financial or public institutions, consulting or audit firms. Subject-matter-expertise related to ESG risks and impacts in a European/UK context. Experience in risk management in financial services, corporate and investment banking or related areas; Understanding of a capital/financial markets environment, which includes knowledge of corporate and investment banking products, time-sensitive deliverables, and fast-pace demands from stakeholders would be an asset; Experience in stress testing Experience with European/UK regulations with respect to stress testing, ICAAP, ILAAP and Recovery and Resolution planning would be an asset; Strong communication and relationship skills with a proven track record of engaging and presenting to stakeholders.
