Senior Manager, EU Government Affairs
Site Name: Brussels Avenue Des Arts 44 Posted Date: Jan 14 2025 About the role We are looking for an exceptional Government Affairs professional to join the EU Government Affairs team in Brussels, part of Communications and Government Affairs Europe. The EU Government Affairs (GA) team develops and drives the company strategy for the EU by bringing in the external voice, driving GSK’s policy positioning in Europe and shaping our operating environment through direct external engagement with EU stakeholders. Each team member is a highly efficient and experienced lobbyist, with clear responsibilities for driving their files and ensuring commercial and reputational success. The Senior Government Affairs Manager is a key member of the Brussels office. They will actively contribute to the development and execution of the EU GA strategy, developing external partnerships with critical stakeholders to enable GSK to grow and build trust in Europe and particularly in Brussels. The Senior Manager will lead on a range of issues related to the European Union, acting as GSK’s eyes and ears to the EU institutions and as point of contact for key policy files related to the European region. They will report directly to the Head of Corporate and Regional Government Affairs, Brussels. About the responsibilities The Senior Manager EU Government Affairs will lead: GSK engagement and advocacy on ESG, and Trade/International Policy in the EU as well as Global Health; Representation in relevant trade associations covering relevant files; Analysis of external trends, emerging debate and specific impact on GSK with proposed solutions to advance the Company’s strategy; Organisation of events in Brussels on key files they would be responsible for, as well as official visits with government officials / EU institutional stakeholder; Manage internal cross-functional network of experts to advance policies on files of responsibility. They will also support GSK advocacy activities in Brussels to support commercial launches and strategic therapeutic areas. Lead Brussels advocacy on key pharma topics for GSK’s Strategy for the EU. Represent GSK externally and leverage our existing memberships in the best possible way. As a GSK ambassador, you will assure a good image of our company with our partners. Directly engage with a number of relevant senior stakeholders (Members of EU Parliament, EU Commission representatives, national representatives from EU member States delegations, others) Support Head of Brussels office in developing and executing EU engagement strategies to advance IPTC priorities and reputational plans based on superior knowledge of current trends and developments in key institutions. Maintain map of key decision makers to ensure coordination of external activities from the Brussels office. Identify key stakeholders by topic of interest and ensure clear correlation between topics for advocacy and the business priorities. Brief senior management, prepare internal notes, positions and policy papers on EU matters. Lead on the execution of a regular EU report. Manage internal cross-functional networks of experts to advance policies on files of responsibility. Deliver action plans that ensure GSK has a strong network built on trust and credibility with stakeholders of influence, including both governmental functions and non-governmental stakeholders (NGOs, IGOs, patient associations). Gather and assess intelligence and use it to report on the EU policy agenda, as well as the wider external social, economic and political developments in Brussels of enterprise interest. About you Degree in EU Studies, Political Science, Economics / Finance or Business, Law. Minimum five years’ experience in public policy / healthcare sector or 5 years in an EU government affairs role. Strong understanding of EU politics and policy-making processes and proven knowledge of pharmaceutical policy. Experience working in a matrix organisation, or otherwise managing complex stakeholder relationships. Behavioural flexibility, cultural understanding and experience of working internationally across multiple and varied cultures, preferably with experience of relevant languages (including English and French / German). Action oriented person with strong focus on external engagement; strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships of trust, externally and internally, across all levels of the organisation. Excellent command of English (written and spoken) required. Fluency in another European language is preferred. Good presentation and communications skills; positive attitude and team player. Strategic thinker, strong problem solving and analytical skills - ability to translate insights into sound analysis and advice for the business. Passion for healthcare and environmental policies If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Master’s Degree in EU Studies, Political Science, Economics / Finance or Business, Law Experience working in a pharmaceutical company or relevant trade association Previous experience of working on and strong understanding of industrial and environmental policy. Established external network of EU institutional stakeholders.
