Senior Manager, Global Brand Strategy

The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) team is responsible for creating marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express products and services through differentiated and innovative branding, marketing, and experiences. We have an ambitious goal: to be the most admired brand in the Fortune 500 and we aim to deliver on that by doing work that is both creative and effective. The Global Brand Strategy team sits within GABM. We are responsible for the development and implementation of our global brand strategy – our long-term, overarching plan that defines what a brand stands for, how it wants to be perceived and its positioning in the market. Deliverables the team is responsible for include: brand positioning, brand architecture, brand personality, target audience, and more. We are seeking a strong strategic and hybrid thinker: equal parts analytical acumen and creative fluency. Someone who knows how to energize and direct teams, agency partners, and cross-functionals to solve complex problems; has a strong background in developing cogent, creative and insights-driven brand strategies; is a skilled communicator who can form quick (but sound) perspectives, advise stakeholders and be a true partner to multi-disciplinary teams. The role involves a mix of strategic thinking, analysis, project management, and designing narratives to communicate our brand persuasively. This position reports to the Director, Global Brand Strategy. **Responsibilities** + Connect global brand strategy priorities to key initiatives within GABM involving key communications teams (advertising, social, experiential, media) + Develop and refine tools (e.g., frameworks, guidelines, trainings) to equip the company and marketers with best practices + Collaborate with our internal insights team and external partners to design and analyze research and measurement – weave insights into relevant briefs to inform marketing and brand strategy + Monitor and assess brand health, equity and perception; use market intelligence to inform, adapt and refine brand strategies + Maintain expertise in key audience persons to inform brand strategy and activation efforts + Partner with creative, comms, media, product and more to ensure brand strategy connectivity and relevance + Maintain a pulse on key market trends and insights, elevating opportunities for American Express’s brand differentiation and provide thought leadership on trends impacting our brand + Oversee the annual global brand strategy budget and agency monitoring, including invoice processing and reconciliation **Qualifications** + Demonstrated 6-8 years marketing, consulting and/or brand strategy experience at a brand-side company, agency or consultancy + Experience building, implementing and optimizing brand foundations, including brand positioning, messaging frameworks and design systems + Project management, ability to develop and manage project plans, budgets, timelines, deliverables + Strong analytical skills and comfort translating research and trends into actionable insights and growth strategies + Excellent communicator, both written and verbal with demonstrated excellence writing and delivering persuasive PowerPoint presentations – be a deck-writing ninja + Self-starter – many of our projects involve white space and require coming up with new approaches without the benefit of past work to draw from + Passion for brand strategy, marketing and the customer – particularly a curiosity about what’s happening not only within American Express but externally. **Qualifications** Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
