Job Description
 

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Director of Manufacturing Strategy and Excellence, and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization (PDM), the Senior Manager, Manufacturing Excellence and Strategy will manage and coordinate operations, business processes, and forums across Manufacturing sites and functions in support of the overall ONE Manufacturing vision.  This role is responsible for managing many of those processes as well as ensuring actual operations reflect the desired operating model.  This role is accountable for rollout and continuous improvement of processes across manufacturing, collaborating closely with all Manufacturing functional groups and other stakeholders internal manufacturing sites, global functions, and business partners.

Focus Areas

Develop and manage Manufacturing processes and operations

Manage and continuously improve operational drumbeat meetings to ensure awareness of changes and issues and promote collaboration and information sharing between sites and functions.

Manage Manufacturing collaboration tools (SharePoint, Teams, etc.).  Build out collaboration tools in a standard way to reflect the organization and operations.  Promote the standard use of tools in partnership with technical system owners.

Organize and establish a network of collaboration forums across Manufacturing that support collaboration, information sharing, and people development in specific areas including Operational Excellence, Validation, Engineering, Safety, Quality Control, Packaging, Systems, People, etc.  Work with Manufacturing leaders to evaluate the current state, energize forums that already exist, and retire/initiate forums as needed.  Manage and support some of these forums.

Build and/or manage other business processes as needed.

Manage projects across Manufacturing Operations

Perform baselining of business processes and functional roles & responsibilities.  Work with leaders to identify ownership, assess gaps and overlaps, and document the overall operating model for Manufacturing Operations.

Lead or manage improvement projects (e.g. operational excellence, business process deployment or redesign) across multiple Manufacturing sites or functions, in support of organizational priorities for our People, Pipeline, and Products.

Manufacturing Strategy & Excellence operations and activities

Participate in defining and building out ways of working together with the rest of the MS&E team.

Manage and contribute to Manufacturing Strategy projects depending on the business need.

Qualifications

Primary degree in Business, Science or Engineering discipline with a minimum of 8 years professional experience or a Master’s degree and a minimum of 6 years experience

Professional certification in project management (PMP or equivalent) or lean six sigma (Black Belt or equivalent) required

Demonstrates all of Gilead’s core values, with a particular emphasis on Inclusion and Teamwork

Demonstrated ability to navigate change and implement new processes, systems, or tools in a highly matrixed environment

Effective communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal

Expertise in standard business software including Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint required as well as familiarity with a range of other software tools (e.g. SmartSheets, Tableau, PowerBI, Veeva, SalesForce)


 

The salary range for this position is: $154,020.00 - $199,320.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
