Position Summary:
In this position, you will need to possess strong organizational and leadership skills with a passion for delivering professional and exemplary results. This key leadership position will be responsible for ensuring that all new builds, refurbishments, and modernization projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency. You would be responsible for the comprehensive oversight and strategic management of Silversea Cruises’ New Build and Modernization efforts as well as Special Projects. The position will oversee special projects that include but are not limited to brand uniform program, World cruise and Grand Voyages operational project management, maintenance and accuracy of SQM/SOP SharePoint databases and fleet inventory levels (overall overview of healthy and unhealthy stock) as well as additional projects as assigned.
This leadership position supports the fleetwide shipboard leadership team and drives continuous collaboration with both shipboard and corporate teams to ensure consistent, world-class service delivery aligned with Silversea and Royal Caribbean Group standards. You would be responsible to supervise all the construction related operations on the site related to ship accommodation area, public spaces, open decks, and laundry, ensuring that all plans and specifications for the project are implemented according to the design and plan. This position involves close collaboration with other departments such as Project team leads, Superintendents of Shore Side, Design Team, New Build Team, Supply chain, Logistics, Finance, Marine and Hotel Operations, following the latest industry trends, and identifying areas for improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean Group standards, Silversea Way, VSP, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental and safety policies. In accordance with Royal Caribbean Group, each employee always conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner. This consists of interactions with contractors, project leaders, shipyard management or fellow shipboard employees.
New Build and Modernization:
The Senior Manager, Project New Build supervises and coordinates the construction of the company owned and managed hospitality projects. You would ensure that the quality of work and materials meets and exceeds VSP construction standards. You would be responsible to supervise all the construction related operations on the site related to ship accommodation area, public spaces, open decks, and laundry, ensure that all plans and specifications for the project are to be implemented according to the design and plan. This position involves close collaboration with other departments, following the latest industry trends, and identifying areas for improvement. You would oversee any documentation requirements and communication of the same to the contractors, vendors and internal stakeholders. Senior Managers will be responsible for scheduling additional crew members to support the projects from the Hotel side as necessary, working with the human resources teams.
You would monitor the progress of the project and provide reports to the department Director and Vice-President. This position travels and relocates extensively to ships and shipyards to conduct yard visits, design meetings to ensure maximum compliance with company brand standards and VSP and USPH guidelines.
You would be responsible for overseeing the development and construction of hotel and crew spaces. Primary duties include:
Project Planning: Collaborating with designers, contractors, and other stakeholders to create detailed project plans, including timelines and budgets. Budget Management: Monitoring and managing the project budget to ensure that it stays within the allocated funds. Site Inspections: Conducting regular site visits to ensure that construction is progressing according to the plans and quality standards. Quality Control: Ensuring that the construction work meets quality standards and specifications. Permit and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all necessary permits and regulatory requirements are obtained and adhered to throughout the construction process. Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating potential risks and issues that may arise during construction. Coordination: Managing communication and coordination between various teams involved in the project. Reporting: Providing regular updates and progress reports to senior management. Owner Supply and Inventory Management: Gathering information of all OS needed, working with different operations teams based on the scope. Collaborating with New Build supply chain/procurement for order placement and in time delivery. Monitoring and reporting the inventory of cleaning supplies and amenities, requesting as needed. Operational Coordination: Coordinating closely with the operations, maintenance, and technical teams to ensure the seamless integration of new builds and refurbishments into daily operations. Provide strategic guidance and problem-solving solutions to improve ship operations and guest experiences across the fleet. Facilitating cross[1]departmental collaboration to resolve operational challenges especially when it comes to Maintenance and related support.Special Projects:
Uniforms: Overseeing and managing special projects, including the uniform program, ensuring brand consistency and quality across all vessels. Healthy inventory stocks, mitigation of excess or obsolete inventory levels and working through IBP for supplier selection and best pricing. WC and GV: Representing Operations teams in the stages of planning and creating World Cruise or Grand Voyage package, and involving other operations leaders as needed. Providing feedback on proposed operational aspects by understanding the execution needs and overall onboard operation. Brand policies SQM and SOPs. Maintaining and ensuring data integrity and timely updates of all corporate policies databases (SQM, SharePoint, Homeport), while working with all stakeholders across the Operations team to ensure SOP and policy accuracy and updates. Plays a crucial role in ensuring that all shipboard operations meet corporate standards and regulatory compliance. Coordinating and aligning Silversea policies with Royal Caribbean Group on legalities, market materials, and group policies. Brand point of contact for Public Health related policies, procedures and compliance. Fleet Inventory levels: Partnering with Inventory team ship and shore to get an oversight of fleet inventory levels, for both healthy and unhealthy items. Partnering with Operational leaders to create actions plans for both healthy and unhealthy inventory levels and monitors reporting Power Bi and other reporting tools. Supporting implementation of any new product or operational enhancements as assigned by the Director and Vice-President of the department.Team Leadership and Development:
Leading a team of project managers and operational experts, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence. Ensuring the professional growth and development of team members through mentorship, training, and performance feedback. Actively participating in cross-functional Meetings. Initiating meetings with marine and technical departments to address and resolve quality concerns and to continuously identify improvement opportunities.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the cruise industry, with a focus on fleet operations, new builds, or ship modernization projects. Strong background in operational management, with proven experience in overseeing large-scale projects within the cruise or hospitality sector. Experience with project management, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and vendor negotiation. Shipboard experience preferred, but not essential. Exceptional project management skills with an ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously. Strong leadership and team management abilities, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Expertise in the development, implementation, and management of shipboard policies, procedures, and compliance standards. Proficiency with data management systems and databases, with keen attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication and people skills. Demonstrate flair, finesse, and aptitude for hospitality. Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results. Ability to collaborate across multiple departments and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders effectively. Ability to foster and maintain a positive working environment within a multi-cultural context Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Self-driven with an ability to maintain and organize multiple tasks simultaneously. Good knowledge of food safety and Public Health standards and procedures. Required to speak English clearly and distinctly. Aptitude to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers. Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, German, Italian or Portuguese preferred but not essential. Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time. This position will regularly require sitting, standing, writing, reviewing, typing reports, compiling data, and operating a computer. A person in this position regularly moves about the office complex, and may climb, descend, lift or move up to 10 pounds.
