CONSUMER BEAUTY - EYE – MORRIS PLAINS, NJ

 Joining Coty R&D Packaging team, it is being part of a great expertise center, a passionate and supportive community to develop yourself. You are responsible for an Initiative program for a brand or a cluster of brands while preserving our planet’s resources. With your team, you will execute the packaging development and the qualification. This will involve identifying, developing, and implementing solutions for primary and secondary packaging, from early inception through qualification at suppliers, third party manufacturing and in Coty

plants. The delivered projects’ must-have success measures include launch delivery on-time, with uncompromised quality, at the right capacity to enable global markets, and at the right cost.

 

In this key role you will leverage your technical expertise, influence, brand/consumer knowledge and

management skills. A high level of collaboration is needed to partner with cross-functional teams, internal (Marketing, R&D Formula, Procurement, Manufacturing, Planning, Finance, Regulatory…) and as well external (Suppliers, Design agencies, Fashion Houses). You will grow your team and build strong organizational capabilities, contributing to the strengths of the Global Coty Packaging Development team.

 

 

THE ROLE

 

In this role you will be responsible for:

 

Identifying the appropriate level of resources needed to deliver the initiative program within your scope.

 

Collaborating with Marketing and R&D Formula on new briefs to answer consumer needs that are technically and financially viable.

 

Advise creative team on best way to achieve desired designs.

 

Having a holistic view of the Category, identifying gaps and potential innovative packaging for the segment.

 

Participating in process improvements.

 

Representing the segment in leadership and other VIP visits/presentations.

 

 

 

You will lead a team of 5+ managers and developers in:

 

Working closely with Procurement to develop conception costs with multiple options to answer to marketing briefs and respect gross margin targets.

 

Conducting and communicating risk assessment studies centered around the packaging.

 

Establishing homologation plans and conducting all necessary testing to validate success criteria, including line trial at filling/manufacturing facilities.

 

Responsible for thorough component and finished good specifications.

 

Track the development milestones against Critical Path Schedules surrounding the packaging components and communicate dates/updates to cross-functional partners.

 

Validating all new component toolings.

 

Conducting all aesthetic development (color matching, decoration).

 

Reviewing/Approving Artwork files for Packaging-specific criteria.

 

Attending 1st Productions when possible, to ensure components and finished goods are of the correct quality expectations.

 

Approving quality standards and range boards for the Componentry and Finished Goods.

 

 

 

 QUALIFICATIONS

 

We’d love to see candidates who have:

 

Essential:

 

Knowledge of cosmetics packaging materials and manufacturing to include: extrusion and injection blow molding, injection molding, metal pressing and print technologies.

 

6+ years of technical experience in cosmetics/pharmaceutical/personal care consumer packaged goods industry with an emphasis on Development and Engineering of primary and secondary packaging (cosmetics preferred, eye products experience a plus).

 

Expertise evaluating technical drawings for accuracy, design intent and fit for use. Must be able to demonstrate competency in handling the interpretations of blueprints and understand the dimensional tolerances to stack-up various component types.

 

Strong project management skills to include time management, prioritization, co-ordination, and communication.

 

Expertise working with manufacturing plant and qualifying new packaging on production lines.

 

Demonstrated ability to operate independently in global diverse teams and environments.

 

Strong leadership skills with proven ability to motivate and train junior developers.

 

Passion for and experience in solving problems using creativity and/ or strong analytical skills with the right level of pragmatism and attention to details that matter in beauty. Affinity to develop beauty design solutions working with industrial designers / design agencies.

 

Excellent collaborative skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Entrepreneurial, agile, and hands-on spirit. Focused and disciplined. High sense of accountability and ownership. Open to change in a dynamic growing environment.

 

Very strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills for verbal and written communication of ideas, technical rationales, risks, issues, and recommendations.

 

Knowledge of cosmetics packaging regulations (fill levels, DOT hazmat requirements, deceptive packaging, etc.)

 

 

 

Desirable:

 

BS in Packaging or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
