Senior Manager, Product & Process

CooperVision (CVI) is recruiting a Senior Manager, Product & Process.  As a member of CVI’s Global Technical Innovation Group (GTIG), the Senior Manager, Product & Process, leads, manages, influences, and supports a group of subject matter experts (SMEs) to optimize process, develop new products, and ensure successful product launches.  Will participate in the transfer of new products and processes from the Research & Development (R&D) function and lead the full implementation into the manufacturing environment.  The position is based in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, and works onsite.  Additionally, the role involves mentoring team members, establishing performance metrics, and continuously seeking opportunities for improvement while delivering on goals and objectives.  Engaging with stakeholders across departments will be essential to align on project objectives and expectations.  

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

Leads the engineering team in continuous improvement initiatives resulting in improving the efficiency, reduce cost and enhance the product quality. Managing cross functional team, including project managers, engineers, and designers. Actively participate, assist, and/or be accountable in the planning and execution of high-complexity development and troubleshooting activities for new and existing products and processes. Promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team. Assertive stakeholder management from multiple functions, locations including suppliers, partners, and leaders, among others.   Oversee the design and development of new products, ensuring they meet market needs and technical specifications.   Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, marketing, manufacturing) to align product vision and execution.   Identify and resolve process related issues to enhance productivity and reduce waste.   Establish clear goals and objectives for the team members, aligning with organizational goals. Communicate effectively with upper management and other stakeholders regarding project status and product performance. Provide the appropriate product technical support to new product development and improvement projects, ensuring that appropriate technology is used to bring commercially successful products to market. Setting and monitoring KPIs to measure product process and process effectiveness.  Provide appropriate direction and decision-making guidance to all levels of the organization. Standardize the product and process characterization procedures within the organization.  Implementing quality control measures and ensuring compliance with the industry standards and regulation. Applying engineering principles to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in product design and manufacturing. Other duties as assigned.

Travel: 

This role may require travel up to 25% of the time both domestic (within US), and international.  

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

Excellent Problem-Solving Skills, Six Sigma and Lean certification as Black Belt is strongly preferred.  Strong and demonstrated project management skills. Project Management Professional (PMP©) certification strongly preferred. Excellent Problem-Solving Skills, Six Sigma and Lean certification as Black Belt is strongly preferred.  Ability to lead teams, mentor engineers and manage project effectively. Fully bilingual (English/Spanish) Strong understanding of engineering concepts and methodologies. Demonstrated ability to coach less experienced staff and technicians. Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills in Spanish and English Excellent interpersonal, relationship management and influencing skills at all levels.  Must be able to give clear direction, communicate expectations, and provide feedback. Ability to lead and manage multiple priorities and projects within the varying demands of a 24/7 manufacturing operation / facility. Knowledge of QSR regulation / Good Laboratory Practices (GLP, part 58) and GMP / Safety regulation (OSHA) Adaptable and flexible, with openness to change. Determination to see tasks through to their successful conclusion. Self-reliant, dependable, steady under pressure, team oriented, enthusiastic, approachable, well-organized, and innovative.  Computer literate (MS Office and related software and applications). Generally, works in a closed environment, in office conditions, with moderate level of noise and controllable changes of temperature. Applies communication skills (advanced reading, writing, and technical skills) and mathematical concepts knowledge to perform work and coordinate with others.   Needs to have high analytical capacity and level of professionalism and judgement to resolve problems.

Experience:

Ten (10) years minimum of experience in regulated medical devices/ pharmaceutical industry. Five (5) years of direct process experience at the exempt level leading high level (regional or global) teams and projects required.   Staff direct supervision and oversight experience required.  Ability to lead both strategy and execution aspects within the automation field as well as operate in a matrixed environment.  

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering or related field required.   Graduate / advanced degrees (MBA, MS or PhD) are preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP©) certification strongly preferred. Lean / Six Sigma certification (Black Belt) preferred.   EIT license and CIAPR membership required.
