What is the Opportunity?
This role acts as the key contact for RBC bank business units with respect to the completion of Risk Control Self-assessments (RCSAs), Risk ID activities, risk assessments for new or amended products, projects and initiatives, and product reassessments. Managing the coordination of risk assessment discussions with functional business partners, the incumbent will ensure that the business clearly articulates risks and controls and determines the inherent and residual risk ratings appropriately; assists the business with understanding risk management; manages the risk assessment pipeline; tracks approval conditions to completion; and escalates any issues to senior management.
Additionally, the role manages Operational Risk Management staff responsible for ensuring risk identification and evaluation activities are executed, and will provide critical support to the Senior Director, Operational Risk Program 1LOD. The role will ensure that opportunities to improve upon optimization and efficiencies are identified.
What will you do?
Acts as a risk Subject Matter Expert in Operational Risk for RBC Bank, and actively supports the business units through risk assessment, risk identification, and risk rating programs, initiatives, and projects.
Provide guidance and direction on risk identification and compensating mitigants or controls in collaboration with business units, Business Control Officers, and the control testing COE.
Ensures business units understand, document and escalate risks through the risk assessment process, including those associated with another line of business or RBC entity for the benefit of RBC Bank.
Partners with each of the applicable Three Lines of Defense risk partners to understand risks and emerging issues, ensuring they are properly articulated and reported.
Responsible for the risk assessment pipeline, ensuring risk assessments are completed, and approval conditions are recorded and tracked to completion.
Completes RCSAs where required, ensuring control deficiencies or gaps are surfaced for action.
Ensure a comprehensive and accurate risk register is maintained.
Develop and maintain executive level reporting on risk assessments and risk identification.
Manage Operational Risk Event identification and reporting.
Leader and people manager.
Contribute to the enhancement and monitoring of the control environment for RBC Bank by documenting Key Controls in partnership with 1LoD teams and business units.
This role requires a leader’s mindset to imagine and inspire new ways of working to drive efficiency and effectiveness, and constant evaluation of the effectiveness of operational processes and procedures using data and other non-traditional methods.
What do you need to succeed?
Bachelors’ degree, or equivalent
7+ years of experience in a risk and control function such as risk management, internal audit, compliance
4+ years in the financial services or other regulated industries
Strong communication skills (written and oral)
Self-motivated professional
Master’s Degree and Risk management professional certifications preferred
