Your New Role
CNN’s Legal Department is seeking a Rights and Clearances Senior Manager to join our team on a permanent basis who has a passion for journalism, is curious, innovative, and dynamic, and excels in a fast-paced environment of responsibility and freedom. This role works closely with editorial teams around the world to support various CNN networks and platforms to acquire third party content (video, photos, audio, etc.). This role can be based in Hong Kong, working traditional hours aligned with HKT (Hong Kong Time).

Your Role Accountabilities

Oversee team operations including recruitment, training, daily management, and support.

Manage high-level projects such as handling copyright claims, drafting guidance for content usage, leading team workflows, and conducting educational seminars for producers.

Negotiate, review, and draft license and content agreements. Under CNN media attorneys' guidance, assess risk and document approvals for fair use requests.

Advise on rights and usage terms for third-party materials and support all CNN editorial teams.

Co-manage our internal databases, tracking rights acquisitions, fair use materials, licenses, and invoice filings.

Maintain and update internal sites detailing the rights, uses, and restrictions of all licensed third-party materials.


Qualifications & Experience

10+ years of pertinent experience in rights and clearances or a related field.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Proven ability in team support, management, and leadership.

Excellent multitasking capabilities and quick decision-making.

Strong verbal and written skills with effective interpersonal and organizational abilities.

Demonstrates professional behavior, good judgment, and reliability.

Self-motivated, resourceful, and committed to complete tasks and projects.

Trustworthy with sensitive information.

Skilled in working independently as well as part of a team.

Capable of handling multiple tasks concurrently, resilient under pressure.

Technologically adept with clearance software, internet research, and MS Office, including document editing.

Flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays to support the continuous news cycle.
