Purpose
 

Contributes to the overall success of US Finance ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
 

Leads and oversees the Scotia Capital (USA) Inc. Finance team ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
 

Contributes to the oversight of preparation of financial reporting and operational accounting for Combined US Operations (“CUSO”). 
 


What You’ll Do 

 

Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

Responsible for the monthly financial close and accurate presentation of the audited financial Statements of Scotia Capital (USA) Inc.

Control the balance sheet by ensuring all balance sheet accounts are substantiated, analyzed, and reconciled.

Supervision and mentoring of Scotia Capital (USA) Inc. Finance Staff.

Key Finance team member responsible for implementing technology enhancements and solutions for the CUSO, including ledger system upgrades and accounting rules engine implementations.

Responsible for preparing key Broker Dealer regulatory reports, including the FOCUS report, FINRA Supplemental Reporting, FR Y-15, and other Fed reports.

Coordinate with the Head of Broker Dealer Regulatory Reporting ensuring compliance with Broker Dealer 15c3-1 Net Capital & 15c3-3 Client protection.

Liaise with internal and external auditors and regulators.

Cross train & share industry knowledge with the team.

Enhance existing reporting process and work papers to align with industry best practices.

Responsible for business line balance sheet reporting across the CUSO, including the development of key analytics and commentary.

Liaise with front office, legal, compliance, operations, risk, product control, finance, and other support teams as a key stakeholder in implementing new processes, products and solutions to make a better bank.

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What You’ll Bring 

 

Finance or Accounting Degree Required, CPA preferred.

FINRA registration and broker-dealer certifications, Series 99 required, 27 preferred.

15+ years of relevant experience in financial and regulatory reporting.

Understanding of banking business, capital markets financial products, and transactional mechanics

Strong knowledge U.S. GAAP financial accounting, including complex accounting principles, P&L reconciliations, profitability analysis, and knowledge of financial and accounting models is required. (knowledge of IFRS preferred)

Skilled at implementing reporting with a system of controls.

Experience in transitioning to new reporting platforms and systems.

The Role requires advanced knowledge of U.S. Broker-Dealer regulatory reporting including an awareness of emerging regulatory requirements impacting changes &/or enhancements to available data.

Knowledge of SEC rule 17a5 Compliance report control requirements.
