Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering - Advertising Technology

Our Expedia Product & Technology division builds innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travellers, partners, and our employees. A unified, singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalised experiences for the traveler and our partners that drive loyalty and customer satisfaction.
The goal of Media Solutions(MeSo) Tech team is to spearhead advertising products and services across many Expedia brands including BEX, Hotels.com, Portfolio Brands (COMET & Hotwire.com), Expedia Partner Sites (EPS), and Vrbo. We help our advertisers identify travellers on EG sites, target specific traveller criteria, and then deliver the most relevant products.
As a Senior Software Development Manager, you will propose, design and implement various initiatives. As a member of the team, you will work in alliance with global teams providing the technical expertise needed to overcome hard problems. We value rigor and innovative thinking in our development process and believe in the power of a motivated & agile development team.
In this role, you will:
You will evaluate the platform architecture and work with the team to understand current engineering gaps and opportunities to evolve our technology stack
You will adopt cloud and serverless technologies and good design practices while finding opportunities to simplify and scale
You will continuously improve productivity and sustainability with great coding, QA, and release processes, coaching less experienced team members
You will partner with the product engineering teams to evaluate and design resilient, scalable, and highly available solutions
You will develop cloud-native solutions to continuously harden our platform and cloud infrastructures at scale
You will solve complex business problems by utilising disciplined development methodology, producing scalable, flexible, efficient, and supportable solutions using appropriate technologies
You will be a part of our development team and actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, functional and technical design, development, testing and roll-out, and support.
Experience and qualifications:
BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or other tech programs and/or related experience
8+ years of backend software engineering experience.3+ years of people management experience with a passion for growing individual careers and enabling high-performing teams
Proven track record in architecting and developing distributed systems design
Hands-on technical experience leading project teams and setting technical direction
An equally strong ability to learn new technologies and share it with others
Skilled coder (familiarity with Java stack a plus) to deliver highly resilient and scalable solutions with a drive towards quality
Experience with development in AWS or similar cloud platforms. Preferred: AWS Lambda, ECS, EC2, S3, EMR, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift, or similar
Experience with software delivery platforms and application monitoring tools (Kubernetes, Spinnaker, Datadog, AppDynamics, or similar)
Familiarity with volume transactional systems, microservices design, and data processing pipelines (Docker, Kafka, Kinesis, Spark, or similar)
Experience with continuous delivery, automated deployments, and related engineering practices
Agile practitioner, able to deliver products iteratively
