The Opportunity:

We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Manager Supply Chain Sustainability Core Diagnostics. This position may be located in our Lake County, Abbott Park, IL location or Willis Tower, Chicago, IL location. 

Abbott’s Global Procurement Services (GPS) is a corporate division supporting procurement and supply chain activities across all Abbott businesses.  The Supply Chain Sustainability (SCS) team partners across Abbott businesses and functions (such as Operations, Supply Chain, EHS, Legal, External Affairs, etc.), as well as strategic external partners, to drive the strategic direction and management of supply chain sustainability, governance, and programming to all levels of the organization.

The Senior Manager of Supply Chain Sustainability (SCS) Business Leader is responsible for the implementation and management of Abbott’s supply chain sustainability programming for the assigned business. The Manager reports to the corporation’s Director of Supply Chain Sustainability (SCS) within the Global Procurement function. Key responsibilities include engaging and influencing the business leaders to integrate sustainability into day-to-day management, ensuring and driving supplier sustainability (environmental and human rights) due diligence and leading Abbott’s supplier-focused environment strategies (carbon, water, waste) across the business in collaboration divisional and other stakeholders.  This Core Diagnostics Supply Chain Sustainability leader will be a trusted advisor and counsel the business on remediating identified sustainability risks in collaboration with subject matter experts, internal business and supplier stakeholders. This is both a business and supplier-facing role.  The leader will be accountable for managing program metrics, tracking and reporting. The Manager will also serve as a subject matter expert with a focus on human rights and sustainability, helping to identify and facilitate improving the sustainability of the assigned business’s supply chain in partnership with suppliers and internal / external partners. This position will work closely with various functions across the Abbott organization to:

What You’ll Work On:

Lead the implementation of Abbott’s enterprise-wide SCS strategy within the Core Diagnostics business which includes sustainability-related compliance, supply chain  short- and long-term sustainability vision and goals, targets, and metrics. This position will work cross-functionally within the Abbott division across the Abbott organization.

Own elements of the Supply Chain Sustainability global program, for example human rights subject matter expertise and its integration into due diligence, training and sustainable procurement.

Own the achievement of SCS goals within assigned businesses. Work across the business to ensure program and goals are understood, prioritized, and executed on including taking a hands-on role to ensure success.

Own Abbott’s Supplier Sustainability Performance Scorecard and guide teams in using it effectively to achieve improved supplier sustainability performance and innovation.

Develop, promote, and execute supply chain due diligence and supplier engagement in support of Abbott 2030 Sustainability Plan and external expectations.

Influence and build understanding within the business Supply Chain leadership to address emerging supply chain sustainability expectations, risks and opportunities and trends to inform operations strategy.

Enable, guide and counsel the Diagnostics business to address sustainability challenges and innovate with regard to supplier sustainability.

Help suppliers understand Abbott’s sustainability expectations and identify or develop tools and resources as required.

Advance Abbott’s management of suppliers through implementing best practices, processes and techniques including supplier selection, contracting, oversight, risk mitigation, relationship management, etc.

Manage performance metrics, tracking and reporting for assigned business, programs and activities.

Act as a model leader within the organization, coaching and developing employees to build a leadership pipeline.

Serve as a sustainability subject matter expert, helping to identify and facilitate improving the sustainability of Abbott’s supply chain in partnership with suppliers and other external partners.

Represent Abbott’s expectations, values and priorities to internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, industry organizations, NGOs, etc.

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of sustainability and ESG, human rights, supply chain or procurement strategy development, implementation, and performance reporting

Bachelor’s Degree required

Proven ability to manage a program affecting a business’s supply chain

Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills including experience with supplier contracting and negotiation

Results and action oriented. Not satisfied with the status quo

Strong project and program management experience

Experience working collaboratively and building strong partnerships across teams

Flexible to work within a matrix organization; at ease within a fast paced, demanding, goal driven environment

Interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences, while optimizing overall organizational goals

Preferred Qualifications:

Sustainability experience in the following areas is preferred:  human rights, health & safety, circular economy, product lifecycle impacts, climate, energy, water

Industry experience in the following areas is preferred: biologics, mechanical, electronics

Advance degree preferred

Experience in participating and /or leading supply chain human rights, environmental or safety related supplier audits and remediation of risks.

The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
