Summary: As a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Office of Public Policy (OPP), the Senior Manager, Federal Affairs is responsible for supporting OPP’s Cost of Cancer Care initiative. In this role, the Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with allied partners and stakeholders and supporting key activities aimed at advancing LLS OPP’s federal policy objectives.
Blood cancer patients experience significant cost burdens associated with cancer diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and survivorship. To address the overwhelming burden of this cost, LLS OPP advocates to advance policies that promote site-neutral payments for outpatient services, address anti-competitive contracting behavior by hospitals and large specialty provider practices, and prevent monopoly-forming mergers and acquisitions by hospital systems, amongst other policies.
LLS OPP seeks a motivated Senior Manager to support this critical area of our work. Key duties assigned to the Senior Manager include helping to develop strong strategies and tactics in support of the cost agenda, coordinating the development of key resources, identifying and sharing actionable cost-related information across the team, representing OPP before internal and external stakeholders, and proactively managing key functional processes including grants management, agenda development, logistics, and other core needs. This position is grant-supported and will terminate on December 31, 2026.
While employees may be permitted to work remotely, travel to the assigned office, HUB or Satellite Offices may be required as determined by the employee’s manager and the employee’s People Organization Generalist.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with OPP’s federal government affairs team to help develop strategies and tactics for advancing the organization’s cost-focused federal policy campaigns. Facilitate robust communication between and amongst OPP’s policy, communications, and government relations teams - serving as a point of contact for cross-department cost questions and proactively sharing critical, timely information with members of OPP staff. Manage and develop key resources including one-pagers, letters, and other materials as needed to support internal and external education and advocacy. This includes soliciting input and feedback from other OPP teams (such as policy or communications) and managing processes and procedures required to drive projects and resources to completion. Design and implement meetings, events, and other activities to drive consensus with stakeholders and partners on cost-focused policy – integrating organizational and people management skills to ensure effective and efficient use of time. Support the Senior Director with grant management responsibilities including deliverable tracking, budgets, internal coordinating meetings (including scheduling, agendas, and logistics).Build and maintain working relationships with counterparts in other national organizations. To include representing LLS periodically in coalitions and before allied partner organizations.Develop a firm understanding of LLS OPP’s Cost of Cancer Care agenda and its underlying policies, including the ability to contribute to ongoing policy development, strategic planning, collateral development, and stakeholder engagement. Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field At least 3 years of experience working in an organization engaged policy development and coalition building, ideally related to healthcare. An advanced degree in a relevant field may partially satisfy this requirementWorking knowledge of federal legislative and regulatory processes Experience working in a matrixed work environmentExperience in coalition building and management strongly preferred.

We are excited to share the base pay range for this position is $64,000 to $93,000. The offered compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at LLS we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the current compensation of similarly situated roles and direct team members. Base compensation is only one component of our Total Rewards program, which also includes an annual incentive plan and a competitive benefits package.
