Sr. Manager, Natrium Fuel Supply               

TerraPower, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Manager to drive the engineering activities associated with producing and delivering fuel to the reactor site.  This role will coordinate the work of a team of TerraPower engineers and partner organizations focused on:

•    Development and qualification of fuel fabrication processes

•    Establishing a source of HALEU and post enrichment processing steps

•    Supply chain for material and components associated with moveable core assemblies

•    Oversight of design, construction and licensing of the fuel fabrication facility

•    Oversight of the design and fabrication of fresh fuel shipping containers

•    Mechanical design of movable core assemblies

 Responsibilities:

•    Develop and manage the engineering team focused on Natrium fuel supply:

o  Demonstrate visible, continuous leadership in the areas of safety and quality

o  Organize group structure to be able to perform

o  Hire, train, and qualify personnel

o  Identify and propose staffing needs, prepare job descriptions, interview candidates

o  Set yearly goals, hold mid-year checks, and perform annual performance reviews

o  Support employee professional development and career objectives

o  Help resolve employee concerns

o  Recommend promotions, transfers, and other staffing changes

•    Execute the Fuel Supply project according to schedule and budget:

o  Estimate effort and durations required for scheduled activities

o  Decompose scheduled activities into executable sub-activities

o  Ensure main inputs required from other groups are clearly identified and linked in project schedules.

o  Participate and provide input and feedback to Pre-Job Plan (PJP) meetings

o  Define engineer training and qualification needs

o  Assign applicable personnel to activities

o  Monitor and report status of activities

o  Approve timecards and contractor invoices

o  Help develop and review statements of work with Procurement personnel for supplier technical activities

o  Identify and communicate opportunities for work process improvements

•    Ensure the technical adequacy and quality of work products:

o  Ensure technical adequacy of work performed

o  Provide reviews and approvals attesting to technical adequacy of work products

o  Ensure compliance with TerraPower Engineering procedures and guidelines, including applicable quality standards

o  Keep the team technically synchronized with each other and with the project

o  Facilitate definition of technical interfaces/handoffs from other teams

o  Provide technical oversight of contractor, supplier, and partner work where applicable

o  Keep managers, department directors, and lead technical staff informed of major emerging technical issues

o  Provide input to technical risk harvesting exercises

o  Assist in the identification of regulations, codes and standards applicable to the work

o  Ensure technical documents meet applicable regulatory guides, codes and standards

o  Ensure design conducted in accordance with project requirements, configuration management and change control plans and practices.

o  Ensure interface with regulators, stakeholders, and customers is carried out in a technically sound, accurate, and complete basis.

o  For key interface activities such as submittals and critical presentations, personally ensure information transfer is accurate and complete.

Key Qualifications and Skills

•    Minimum of BS in applicable engineering field

•    Minimum 10 years of experience in nuclear fuel fabrication covering research & development through deployment

•    Minimum 5 years in a combined technical leadership role with ongoing requirement for performance of project technical scope, in addition to other manager responsibilities

•    Experience managing a multi-disciplinary, cross organizational, widely dispersed team desired.

•    Frequent travel will be required to provide required oversight for the various design and fabrication activities.

•    Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills

•    Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems

•    The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

•    Work Conditions: Stairs, typing/keyboard, standard and/or sitting working environment of >8 hrs./day.

•    Travel: candidate must be able to travel to vendor/partner locations (>30%).

Job details

Salary Range Level 13:  $194,197 -  $279,158

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary bands.  Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.  This range is specific to Washington State.
