Summary of Job Duties:The Senior Manager Patient Safety is a self-directed member of the UAMS Dept. of Patient Safety who plans, implements, and monitors safety projects for effectiveness of services, quality and appropriateness of care, cost containment, patient safety and risk reduction issues. This role assists the director with the general operations of the patient safety department as needed. The senior manager will participate in all aspects of operations including budgeting, HR management, developing policies and procedures, staff development and cost containment, accepting and sharing in responsibility for meeting department goals.

Clinical Healthcare Degree (BSN, RT, PT, OT, SLP)Bachelor’s Degree in health related field5 years’ management experience in health care setting3 years’ Quality, Safety, Risk, PI or Regulatory/Accreditation experience required.Demonstrated ability to align and motivate key process stakeholders, including physicians, nurses, and other clinical/admin staff. Transformational leadership skills and participatory leadership style. Engage in timely and professional communication immediately reporting SSEs, SEs, and all matters of concern to department leadership. Coordinate and oversee the defined comprehensive institutional adverse event response plan for the review of patient safety events which includes but is not limited to an event timeline and medical record abstraction. Support the systematic review of adverse and near miss events and guide patient safety team in the selection of appropriate events to bring forth for institutional review based on SAFE Matrix. Collaborate with Clinical Risk to facilitate RCAs and develop subsequent strong action plans to prevent recurrence of harm with a deference to design systems that proactively address harm.Review safety events for trends or system concerns and make recommendations that guide adverse event analysis and documentation for accreditation readiness and institutional improvement and communicate these to department leadership. Lead and provide support to interdisciplinary committees and workgroups regarding safety issues as needed.Serve as central resource and coordinating link for the patient safety department’s response to reported adverse events.Oversee the review of adverse events and assist Clinical Risk convening, conducting, and preparing final report following Root Cause Analyses (RCAs). Demonstrate strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills and a commitment to accurate and timely reporting, excellent follow through and responsiveness.Collect and analyze patient safety data in collaboration with patient safety data analyst preparing reports presented to various committees to assist in the organizational review of serious safety events. Coordinate department efforts to ensure that safety event reporting deadlines (departmental, regulatory, Hospital Medical Board, and Board of Trustees) are met with accuracy to comply with CMS validation and accreditation requirements while maintaining focus on the patient as the core of the patient safety program. Engage in timely and professional communication with medical staff, nursing department directors/managers, and front line staff regarding patient safety issues/events and deploy resources in the case of sentinel event.May be assigned additional duties that are related to patient safety. Engage in timely and professional communication reporting significant incidents of patient harm and aggregated event trends to the Director of Patient Safety, Clinical Risk and Patient Relations and the Associate Chief Clinical Officer for Patient Safety.Serve as coordinator for the Dept. of Patient Safety with respect to all accrediting body and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines. (ADH, TJC, Leapfrog, CMS etc.)Maintain, review, and revise UAMS policies related to Patient Safety and Clinical Risk as needed.Ensure compliance with all patient safety CMS requirements and serve as subject matter expert in this area. Assist with accrediting body (TJC) and regulatory visits as needed. Performs other duties as needed.
