We are currently seeking a Senior Manager to be part of our Tax Services Group (TSG) practice. TSG at Moss Adams is comprised of tax professionals who go beyond compliance–providing deep technical and strategic guidance to clients so they're better equipped to tackle their most vexing challenges and embrace emerging opportunity. The Texas oil and gas property tax team member will join our greater property tax service team to help grow our energy practice. Our property tax team provides both consulting and compliance services for the energy industry that helps drive value and significant tax savings to our clients. The team member will file property tax renditions, review property tax assessments, appeal the assessments, and advise clients on their property tax needs.

Responsibilities:

Provide appeal and technical support analyses of oil and gas properties, not limited to review and informal hearing support, with attention to related indirect tax issues such as decline curve analysis, operating expense review, changes in statutory procedures and deadlines, etc.
Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Utah, and West Virginia experience preferred
Assist with management of clients and serving their needs
Assist with various tax consulting projects involving research and writing related to tax planning, taxability, assessment appeals, audit representation and resolution, tax exemptions and abatements, credits and incentives, etc.
Assist in the leadership and growth of the oil and gas property tax service line
Review and analysis of client’s property tax and potentially assist with severance tax reviews for identification of potential assessment appeal opportunities
Analyze taxpayer data and be able to identify opportunities for prospects and clients.
Keep up to date on state and local tax law changes and advise clients and prospects on those changes
Participate in business development activities
Develop internal relationships within the firm and help grow external branding

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required; emphasis in accounting, finance or engineering preferred
CPA, JD, CMI, or Texas Property Tax Consultant certification preferred
Minimum of 7 years of related tax experience required; oil and gas experience required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Creative problem solving and research skills - Able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently - Able to handle multiple priorities, tasks and simultaneous projects
Able to provide prompt and reliable client service - Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)with intermediate knowledge of Excel
Ability to travel as needed, approximately 30%
