The Headhunters Recruitment has partnered with CDL Group of Companies (https://cdlelectric.com/) to add a full-time Senior Manager – Railway Signals and Construction to their Canadian team.
Reporting to the Canadian Operations and Special Projects Lead, the Manager - Railway Signals and Construction Canada for CDL is responsible for overseeing a team of supervisors and maintainers responsible for upholding Transportation Canada guidelines and standards accompanied by provincial testing and maintenance standards. The incumbent is accountable for managing divisional P/L’s, business development, hiring, invoice verification, estimating, testing and commissioning as well as sourcing and procurement. The role requires following codes of practice and documentation to ensure full compliance in Canada while cultivating company safety metrics and programs. Client relations and strategic expansion are key components of duties.

Key responsibilities include: Responsible for infield accuracy of maintainer testing, maintaining, and improving grade crossing warning, AEI or defect detector systems on their assigned territory. Follow regulations and testing procedures as set forth by Transport Canada, Railway Client and CDL Canada Standards.   Understand and comply with Transport Canada rules and regulations around railroad signaling, including any applicable Hours of Service Law.   Responsible for providing detailed test and inspection reports. Paperwork may include: testing records, HOS forms, timesheets, material handling forms and trouble tickets. Responsible for implementing strategies to maximize profitability in their area of responsibility. Foster good relationships with local railroad customers and suppliers Be a team player willing to help other territories and railroads. Assist with special projects, when assigned including general labor.   Comply with railway and CDL safe work practices and signal work practices. Exposure to live trains/tracks and high voltage. Work is safety sensitive requiring PPE. Keep company vehicles, equipment, tools, and signals in ready for service condition. Perform work that can be physically demanding- driving long distances, bending, standing, walking for long periods of time on uneven ground, climbing up/down, and lifting/pulling heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Valid Driver’s license. What the successful candidate will bring: Electronics, Communications Technologist/Technician Certification from a recognized technical College. Advanced knowledge of electronic instruments and electrical fundamentals with an emphasis on low-voltage AC & DC circuits and relay or ladder logic. Must be able to read and comprehend wiring diagrams. Knowledge of rail operations and railroad signaling principles with focus on grade crossing warning systems, defect detectors and AEI readers and radio communications. Experience overseeing project coordination with employees, clients, and vendors. Strong communication skills - provide clear and concise reports, instructions and/or directions to team members and with stakeholders regarding project progress and challenges. Excellent focus and attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.   Proficiency with MS Office, Excel and Word and specific diagnostic/software use.
