Your role and responsibilitiesAs the Senior Manager for Software Development at B&R, you will lead a large system of product owners, technical leads and software developers / testers and are responsible for developing and delivering multiple software components within the B&R software portfolio. With your strong knowledge and expertise with agile software development methodologies and modern technology stacks, you will support our teams in being the driving force transform the Software R&D organization to deliver a future-oriented Industrial Automation software portfolio in the market. You will report to the Vice President of Product Group Software and will also work closely with the technical leaders of the software and firmware teams distributed in a matrix structure across other parts of the organization. •\tDesign and architect a cohesive software and system ecosystem that integrates an IDE, a runtime environment for industrial real-time equipment, and a digital platform•\tWork closely with product teams (both Hardware and Software) to ensure the seamless integration of all components, enhancing the overall user experience and system performance•\tDefine and enforce best practices in software architecture and design, firmware development, and system architecture to ensure non-functional requirements such as performance, security, scalability, and maintainability are achieved•\tUtilize scaled agile methodologies to facilitate collaborative and efficient team working environments, ensuring timely delivery of integrated solutions•\tEngage with stakeholders across different domains to gather and validate requirements, ensuring the software ecosystem meets diverse needs•\tLead technology decision-making processes within each product and across the entire product portfolio, ensuring alignment with overarching business goals and technology standards•\tStay abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies that could benefit the ecosystem, driving continuous innovation and improvement
Qualifications for the roleBachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field15-20 years of experience in software development, covering multiple areas such as front-end applications, cloud services, embedded software development, along with a deep understanding of IDEs, runtime environments, and digital platformsProgressive experience in leading smaller to larger teams (50+ people) and prior experience in managing first-level managers is mandatoryProven ability in commercial software product leadership, especially for B2B customersExcellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges and make informed decisionsWell-respected people manager with strong inter-cultural skills, having proven capabilities in working with people in a global R&D setupStrong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of articulating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and convincing stakeholders in a matrix organizationExperience with modern software development tools, languages, and frameworks, and with transforming teams to adopt such tools and methodologiesExcellent writing and presentation skills in English; German language skills will be a clear advantage
