Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate individual to join our Powertrain & Electronics Manufacturing team as a Senior Equipment Engineer. As part of this team you will design custom mechanical equipment for manufacturing lines including: tooling, fixtures, semi-automated machines, work stations and fluid/pneumatic systems for the assembly and test of components for the Joby S4 aircrafts. The ideal candidate for this position lives and breathes mechanical design in Solidworks. This position requires a relentless drive for engineering excellence and the ability to find balance between complex and sometimes competing priorities.

Responsibilities Design of machinery and mechanical tools used for the assembly, installation and testing of aircraft components and sub-systems. This will require working in SolidWorks every day.Work closely with Design engineers, Test engineers and Manufacturing engineers to develop equipment that meets product and process requirements per design specifications.Apply engineering first principles throughout the equipment design process to create math and physics driven, cost-effective, and user-friendly manufacturing equipment.Determine appropriate material and component selections for equipment components based on manufacturing requirements, reliable sources and speed of integrationEngineer full designs, drawing packages, BOMs, fluid/pneumatic schematics and assembly instructions for small and large projects alike.Develop calculations for determining minimum criteria for required mechanical interactions and load transfers, then design and specify components based on those calculations.Manage sourced part and fabricated part procurement needs with internal and external suppliers to deliver equipment builds on schedule.Lead build and assembly of designed equipment with build-technicians and your own hands-on to ensure that the systems meet initial design, fit and function requirementsAdapt quickly and energetically to the changing needs of equipment design in the dynamic world of an electric aviation startup Harbor a spirit of collaboration and enthusiasm to support the common goals of the company Required S. in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.8+ years of work experience in automation equipment design or manufacturing machine design.Excellent problem-solving skills and strong engineering fundamentals and instincts with a hands-on attitude and desire to participate in the build process.Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work with many different people and manage working relationships.Exceptional 3D & 2D CAD drawing skills in Solidworks and the knowledge of how to manage large assemblies with custom and vendor parts in multiple file formats.Experience with GD&T. Experience with project execution from initial concept development to final system integration on a production line. The target base pay for this position is $123,400 - $164,600 per year salary. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
