The Role 

Senior Marine Broker – Cargo & Logistics Specialist

 

The successful candidate will be required to perform the following activities:

Drive new business sales to grow the marine business unit and participate in RFP’s. Contribute to the retention of the WTW client base by challenging the status quo and providing superior marine insurance solutions.   Participate in internal strategy and pre-renewal meetings to strategize on the renewal of the insurance portfolio.  Effectively conduct a detailed client need analysis with the client including insured and uninsured risk review. Analyze loss data and ascertain correct loss retention levels. Engage with risk finance analysts, if required. Prepare and ensure accuracy of quote slips & policy wordings. Identify & select appropriate insurance and reinsurance markets based on a thorough understanding of local and global market cycles, appetite & capacity. Utilize WTW Global Lines of Business to access international markets where appropriate.  Identify sanctions touch-points and obtain the necessary approvals prior to the market submission. Ensure compliance with local standards & procedures and external compliance regulations. Place global, local and controlled master policies for multinational clients. Keep abreast of compulsory insurance legislation in African countries and be aware of where export cover cannot be arranged from South Africa.  Understand and discuss client’s risk and requirements with the markets, negotiate coverage and obtain the best solution. Analyze and compare market quotes. Prepare renewal terms presentation where required and present renewal terms to clients with a well-thought-out recommendation.  Bind cover with the markets once client firm order is received. Ensure that the invoices are captured correctly on E-Global and premiums are collected timeously  Collect/issue policy documents and submit to clients within 30 days of inception / renewal  Manage a binder where required  Conduct product and systems training to clients where necessary. Contribute to process improvements and effective utilization of IT systems. Monitor claims and assist claims handler with contentious or repudiated claims. Mentor and train junior staff. Act as a back-up for the Marine Leader when they are out of the office. 

 The Requirements 

 

Minimum 20 years industry experienceSouth African CitizenFAIS compliant: RE5 as well as 120 credits at NQF level 5 (or relevant degree)A growth mindsetA deep understanding of the trade and logistics industry segment in South Africa especially the fruit and logistics industriesDemonstrates knowledge and experience in marine, logistics and logistics liability productsUnderstanding of first party and third-party cell captives Excellent relationship with the South African marine insurance marketPassion for new business sales Self-motivated Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities whilst paying close attention to detail Must practice WTW Values i.e. Integrity, Respect, Excellence and TeamworkSolid interpersonal and presentation skillsA focus on customer service as a key deliverable is essentialHigh level of comfort presenting directly to C-Suite clients
