Senior Mechanical Engineer – High Temperature Structural Materials

Do you enjoy developing and prototyping novel engineered materials, surfaces and structures for high temperature applications? Do you have experience in thermal testing and analyzing structures to characterize novel materials and structures in extreme environments? We are seeking a senior engineer to apply high temperature structural and thermal protection materials to subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flight vehicle applications! You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers with a broad range of experience, from both internally at APL and multiple external, government, university, and industry organizations! As a Senior Engineer, you will... Lead studies and research activities to advance the state of the art in fields such as high temperature structural and thermal protection materials, thermal survivability and thermal-structural analysis Provide technical contributions and leadership in the design and analysis of new materials and structures to the development of strike weapon systems in the relevant areas of analysis, modeling and simulation, hardware, integration, test and evaluation Collaborate regularly with Government sponsor, industry partners, and key Laboratory program and technical staff on activities related to the development and analysis of radome systems Prepare written documents and presentations of technical work Lead and mentor engineer teams Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Possess a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant technical field Have 3+ years of relevant experience in high temperature (>1000°C) structural and thermal protection materials, thermal analysis, and thermal testing Have experience in using structural/thermal simulation software Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
