Miller Electric, an ITW company, is seeking a New Product Development (NPD) Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Precision Welding Solutions team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be instrumental in all engineering aspects required to bring new products to the market.
We are looking for a positive, highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work well both in a team and individually.
Essential Functions:
Direct involvement in all design activities including: CAD design, fabricating, assembling, troubleshooting, functional testing, reliability testing, agency testing, documentation, and manufacturing readiness
Work with other engineers, technicians, marketing, and manufacturing personnel to create and develop differentiated, innovative, reliable, cost-effective, and simplified solutions
Design and document components and assemblies using SolidWorks
Commitment to the Customer-Back ITW Business Model and involvement of all NPD stakeholders
Travel for Voice of Customer and field tests may be required up to 5% of the time
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 or more years of relevant industry experience
Must be a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively complete tasks individually as well as in a cross-function team environment
Product design experience: component level and system level design knowledge
Computer design proficiency: knowledge in SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, SolidWorks Simulation, and Microsoft Office products
Understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles: statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, heat transfer, fluid and thermo dynamics, machine design, test and measurement, and energy conversion systems
Additive manufacturing for prototyping and validation experience
Manufacturing processes knowledge and knowledge of low, mid, and high volume production economics
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience with injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, machining, and joining
Component inspection experience using various metrology equipment
Familiarity with CSA, IEC, and UL or experience with other Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories
Familiarity with quality control approaches such as creation of reliability test plans and reliable component design
An innovation track record
Experience in design for manufacturing and assembly: simplification of product structure/sourcing, reduction of manufacturing and assembly cost, and elimination waste
A history of customer interactions
Electronics packaging design experience and/or electrical-magnetic component design experience
