HDR has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Movable Bridge group, based out of our Newark, NJ office.
Description
The primary responsibility of the Senior Mechanical Engineer is to serve as technical project lead on mechanical system design and rehabilitation projects for the Movable Bridge Group. HDR’s Movable Bridge program has evolved into an international practice that includes design of mechanical systems not only for movable bridges but also for other large machinery structures such as locks and dams, cranes, tunnels, and industrial handling equipment.
As project lead, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will be expected to function as Project Manager for some projects or serve as mechanical team lead and work with junior engineers to deliver mechanical designs for other projects. Typical tasks will include performing mechanical assessments, designing heavy machinery components, drafting design plans, and completing cost estimates and specifications for mechanical engineering projects.
The position offers the opportunity to work independently on small projects and on interdisciplinary teams on larger projects. Standard machine design techniques will be used during everyday tasks and design of custom solutions will be required for unique systems.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be expected to travel and field work around 10% of the time to assess mechanical systems throughout the US.
In the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer, we'll count on you to:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings Professional Engineer (PE) license Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and AutoCAD Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
