As a Senior Quality Engineer – Mechanical Parts & Complex Assemblies at MKS Instruments Manufacturing operation located in Kaki-Bukit, Singapore you will be responsible for leading the quality assurance of mechanical components and complex mechanical assemblies used in our laser-based systems. This role involves developing and executing inspection and testing protocols, managing inspection systems, and performing failure analysis activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dimensional inspection, troubleshooting complex mechanical parts and assemblies, and extensive ISO-9001 quality systems expertise. This role involves ensuring product quality, resolving issues related to mechanical components & sub-systems and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Inspection:
Develop detailed dimensional inspection plans for mechanical components and assemblies using tools such as CMM, and optical comparators. Develop and maintain inspection protocols and test plans for mechanical parts and assemblies.Interpret technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and engineering specifications to ensure compliance. Failure analysis & Troubleshooting: Investigate failures in mechanical parts and assemblies, identifying root cause using techniques such as metallurgical analysis, fractural analysis and FMEA. Utilize statistical methods to define appropriate sample sizes based on part criticality, lot size and supplier performance.Validate cleaning processes for incoming parts and verify their compliance with cleanliness requirements. Conduct first article inspections (FAI) for new parts to validate conformance to design specifications.Quality Management System (QMS):
Implement and maintain QMS processes in compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevantstandards.
Support internal and external audits, including preparation, execution, and follow up actions.Supplier Quality Improvements:
Evaluate and qualify suppliers for mechanical components, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications. Collaborate with supplier to investigate and resolve non-conformances and drive quality improvement.Data Analysis & Reporting
Analyze quality data to identify trends, drive decision-making, and recommend process improvements.Create reports and dashboards to communicate quality performance metrics to stakeholders.Continuous Improvement:
Lead initiatives to improve product quality and manufacturing processes. Provide recommendations for process improvements based on data analysis and best practices. Actively participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma projects to enhance Quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.Requirements:
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in mechanical parts inspection, quality engineering, failure analysis, preferably in laser, systems, or manufacturing environments. Solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering Principles including Structural analysis, Material selection, Tolerance analysis and Manufacturing Process.Strong background in mechanical parts inspection, including dimensional inspection tools & GD&T.Profficiency in CAD software for drawing interpretation (e.g Solidworks, Autocad).Experience with Quality Software such as Minitab, SPC tools, SAP ERP & Agile PLM.Experience in failure analysis techniques, Optical Microscopy, Stereo Microscopy, Material property analysis, Surface roughness measurements etc.Strong knowledge of QMS and ISO 9001 standards. Experience with supplier audits and managing vendor relationships. Familiarity with fabrication and cleaning processes for mechanical parts. Excellent problem solving, analytical, and communication skills. Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies. Hands on experience with laser or systems manufacturing is a plus.#LI-DNI
