**Job Description**
As a **Senior Media Communications Representative** , this position develops and implements media and external communication strategies that support business and enterprise needs. This role collaborates on communications that illustrate how Caterpillar supports customers during the energy transition to a lower-carbon future.
The Senior Media Communications Representative is part of the Enterprise Communications team focused on promoting and protecting the Caterpillar brand and reinforcing the company’s strategy. Work involves complex or high-impact situations and is reviewed after completion. The role is located in Irving, Texas.
**What You Will Do:**
+ Collaborate with subject matter experts to create and execute media and external communications for the Energy & Transportation segment, which includes Rail, Solar Turbines, Large Power Systems, Industrial Power Systems, Remanufacturing, Electric Power, Oil & Gas and Marine, and Electrification & Advanced Power Solutions.
+ Contribute to the development of an Energy & Transportation public relations strategy to support the company’s goals.
+ Engage with both traditional and non-traditional media outlets to advance Caterpillar’s messaging; pitch story ideas, prepare briefing materials, and draft press releases and reactive statements.
+ Develop and maintain positive relationships with top tier, regional and local media outlets in the business and industry-specific press.
+ Prepare and review messaging for executives and other leaders within the segment.
+ Coordinate with multiple Caterpillar stakeholders for segment-specific announcements and amplification.
+ Support crisis communications as needed.
+ Manage large, complex, external-facing projects under tight deadlines through completion.
+ Follow media conversations in order to advise leaders; conduct research for relevant topics and stay current on company initiatives.
+ Contribute to metrics tracking to communicate impact.
+ Perform other related communications duties as assigned.
**What You Have:**
+ The position requires a college or university degree in journalism, communications, a related field, or equivalent experience. The role requires at least seven years of experience in communications and media relations; preferably with knowledge of the energy industry.
+ Business Acumen: Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
+ Knowledge of Organization: Knowledge of the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to understand the value of aligning capabilities with business goals to support optimal performance.
+ Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
+ Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
+ Proven track record of cultivating relationships and effectively working with local, national and global journalists.
+ Excellent writer and presenter able to persuade and educate diverse stakeholders.
+ Process oriented with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while paying close attention to tactical details.
+ Work with a sense of urgency in a deadline-driven environment, with the ability to quickly prioritize.
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills; collaborative mindset and team player.
+ Knowledge of news outlets, industry trends and media relations databases.
