Senior Medical Assistant

As a Senior Medical Assistant, you will assist in the day-to-day clinical operations to support the delivery of safe, high quality clinical care, treatment, services, and workflows. The Senior Medical assistant in the office setting is a specialty requiring a variety of skills, including but not limited to: Receptionist, registration duties, data collection for billing procedures, charge posting, maintains appointment schedules, and provides appropriate patient instructions per physician orders. This position will be assigned to cover any MA assignment and can be cross trained throughout Primary Care and Specialty Practices. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Follows telephone screening guidelines for answering the phone; identifies patient's health problem or concern and directs calls. Triages patient phone calls and takes appropriate action.
•    Schedules patient appointments and referrals demonstrating understanding of scheduling guidelines and patient needs. Reason for appointment is clearly documented. Documents all patient interactions accurately and in a timely manner
•    Responsible for rooming patients and preparing treatment rooms for examination to include stocking and cleaning. Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization. Properly manages sharps containers, including replacing, packaging, transporting and discarding full containers.
•    Interviews patients in exam room, obtains and documents information relevant to patient care and medication management, and obtains accurate BP, apical pulse, respiratory rate, pulse oximetry, and temperature measurements. Generates intake and records basic information about presenting and previous conditions. 
•    Assists provider by preparing patients for physical examinations, assists with procedures, and collects and labels specimens ordered by provider.
•    Serves as a Primary MA Preceptor and Mentor.  Assists with MA orientations and provides input to Manager for performance evaluations.
•    Acts as an EMR Superuser/Subject matter expert regarding EMR system. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the system and how to document and schedule appropriately.
•    Able to effectively de-escalate conflict independently, serves as a point of contact for service recovery
•    Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Required:
•    High School diploma or GED.
•    Demonstrated MA competencies or equivalent MA experience gained through any of the following: MA Certificate, Associates degree in Medical Assisting, CNA (or LNA), EMT, PCT certificate, or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
•    Medical Assistant with a minimum of relevant 5 years’ work experience.
•    Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
•    Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.

Preferred:
•    Previous experience in an ambulatory or specialty practice setting.
•    Computer skills.
•    Bi-Lingual speaking, Spanish and English.
