Performs, evaluates and reports routine and STAT laboratory tests on blood, urine, and other body fluids. Tests are performed using various automated and manual methods. The Medical Technologist hired for the purpose of working on 2nd and 3rd shifts must be able to work in the following laboratory departments: Hematology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Serology, Urinalysis, Blood Bank and perform all required test procedures in each department. The Medical Technologist hired for the purpose of working on the 1st shift must be able to perform all required test procedures in the department(s) by which he/she has been hired. The Medical Technologist is responsible for instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, quality control evaluation and problem solving, and quality assurance data collection.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
Must be licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the New York State Education Department and/or be certified as a Medical Technologist by ASCP or AMT. Baccalaureate degree or a foreign equivalent in Medical Technology or related science field. Must meet NYS Department of Health qualifications for Medical Technologist as stated in Public Health Law Part 58.1-1.5. Previous experience working in a highly automated environment preferred. Independent, mature, self-motivated, reliable and responsible Able to serve the needs of patients ages neonatal to geriatric. Able to deal with all types of customers in a pleasant, professional manner. Must possess excellent organizational skills and a strong ability to mutltask.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position can be in or out of doors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Perform, evaluate, troubleshoot, and document proper quality control procedures. Perform proficiency testing as directed. Monitor and maintain appropriate supply levels. Communicate supply needs as necessary. Involved in training of students and new employees as required. Maintain competency per department policy Assist with department Quality Assurance and Process Improvement projects. May act as department charge tech when the minimum experience requirements as defined in 10 NYCRR Part 58-1.4 of NY Public Health Law have been met. Assist supervisor with regulatory compliance needs Works with lab IT department on computer updates and changes to meet department service needs Follow hospital policies and procedures that relate to mandatory education, annual health assessment, and licensure verification.

Salary Range: $21.22-30.77 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
