Job Description

Job Title:  Senior/Medical Science Liaison (Hematology and Oncology)

Location:  Malaysia, Selangor

About the role: 

 The Senior/Medical Science Liaison (MSL) establishes Takeda’s medical affairs presence with external stakeholders through scientific exchange and research support. This role is a therapeutic area (TA) expert responsible for execution of TA specific medical plan for Hematology and Oncology. Fostering relationships, medical exchanges and scientific communication with key external stakeholders.

This position is responsible to lead in-field execution of medical plan by communicating fair-balanced TA, product-related and clinical information to external stakeholders (e.g. key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), academic institutions, healthcare institutions/agencies committees) and responding to unsolicited request for medical information. Additionally, this position will provide key insights learned from the medical and scientific community to wider internal organization to inform portfolio strategies and brand plans.

This position will work closely with Medical Manager in TA to develop and implement country medical plan. Collaborate cross-functionally to translate medical strategies and consolidate insights into local integrated brand tactics to broaden access to Takeda’s innovative medicines. Lead and support the execution of non-promotional medical educational activities. Provide scientific expertise and training to cross-functional stakeholders as needed.

This position is a field- based position, with approximately 70% time in the field collaborating with KOLs and other external stakeholders as needed. 

How you will contribute: 

KOL And HCP Engagement

Ability to identify and develop relationships with KOLs by engaging in ongoing scientific exchange and balanced discussions by addressing unsolicited questions regarding Takeda’s hematology and oncology medicines.Act as a scientific bridge between KOLs and Takeda stakeholders.Address unsolicited request for medical information from HCPs including on/off-label uses of company products and respond to relevant external customers with written and verbal communications, in accordance with the medical information process.Report Adverse Events and Product Quality issues to appropriate local company staff within required timeframes.

Research Support

Identify KOLs whose research interests align with Takeda hematology and oncology TAIdentify and facilitate company approved Investigator Initiated Sponsored Research (IISR) aligned with Takeda’s medical strategies and support submission of study concepts/protocols.Track progress of IISR proposals and once approved track study progress.Aids in identifying, evaluation, and screening of qualified research sites for clinical investigation, this may include identification of sites for company- sponsored studies.Work with clinical trial colleagues as required, facilitating the research process and supporting enrolment efforts for on-going studies. This includes approaching potential investigators to assess local trial capabilities but excluding any formal International Conference of Harmonization (ICH) Good Clinical Practices (GCP) activities

Internal Stakeholder Collaboration

Integrate with Sales, Medical, Marketing, Market Access and Clinical groups through effective interaction with internal cross-functional teams.Support the execution of Medical Strategies in a compliant manner.

Scientific Intelligence/Scientific Conferences

Collect medical insights and intelligence gathered from scientific exchange with KOLs and interpret and communicate relevant information to internal stakeholders and wider organization promptly to define, update and support medical strategies.Attend relevant local, national and international meetings and congresses as required to update medical/scientific knowledge and develop relationships with KOLs.Provide feedback on competitor activities of relevance.Provide medical booth and session coverage at scientific meetings and report information of strategic interest to Takeda.

Training and Education

Deliver educational initiatives to HCPs as appropriateDeliver on-going scientific and medical training to internal partners, including field facing team training at launch and address frequently asked questions.Complete all required training, activity documentation, expense reporting and other administrative responsibilities.

Other Value-added Considerations

Facilitate formulary submissions with medical/scientific data support. Provide clinical presentations and medical information to payer groups and government accounts upon request.Effectively contribute to the development and implementation of key medical activities (e.g. Advisory Board, Focus Group Meeting, medical education and peer-to-peer activities) as appropriateCreate or support the development of medical/scientific materials and medical slide decks as needed and ensured the content is appropriately reviewed and approved as per Takeda policiesIdentify educational opportunities that are aligned with Takeda’s medical education strategiesProvide medical coverage, clinical presentation and medical information at hospital scientific meetings as appropriateEnsure compliance of all responsible activities to relevant laws and regulations as well as internal standards and SOPs. Ensure all field scientific-medical communications are fair-balanced, based on appropriate scientific evidence, and compliant with local regulatory norms and internal compliance rules

What you bring to Takeda: 

Minimum Requirement: A post-graduate university degree in Health/Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing or similar discipline / medical graduates (e.g. MBBS) / candidate with pharmaceutical industry/health care related field experiencePreferred Experience: Candidate with doctoral degree in Health/Life Sciences (e.g. PhD)/MBBS/MD/ Pharmacist with a minimum 1.5-year prior MSL experience working in relevant TA experienceIn-depth hematology and oncology knowledge and the ability to understand complex scientific concepts and integrate them into discussions will be an advantageWell- versed in highly technical and scientific languages to communicate with KOL, Medical Affairs team, Research and Development, as well as other key internal and external stakeholdersExcellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to engender trust and respect of peers and superiorIndependent and self-driven with positive work ethicProven track record of teamwork, cross-functional collaboration, and leadershipHigh integrity, ethical and professional mind setStrong planning and organization skills with ability to prioritizeResults oriented with sense of urgency and adherence to timelines
