Senior Metallurgist

Position Description:

The Senior Metallurgist is a key technical role responsible for optimizing gold recovery processes, improving plant performance, and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the processing plant. The role focuses on troubleshooting, technical leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives within the mill to achieve production targets and maximize recovery.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Monitor and analyze plant performance data to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement. Implement process changes to optimize gold recovery, reagent usage, and throughput. Conduct metallurgical test work, including laboratory and plant trials. Provide technical guidance to mill operators, supervisors, and maintenance teams. Troubleshoot and resolve complex processing challenges. Develop and maintain metallurgical accounting systems for accurate reporting of gold recovery and losses. Lead process improvement projects to enhance recovery and operational efficiency. Evaluate and recommend new technologies, equipment, and best practices for gold processing. Train and mentor junior metallurgists, operators, and technicians. Ensure all metallurgical activities align with corporate and regulatory safety and environmental standards. Participate in risk assessments and contribute to hazard identification and mitigation strategies. Prepare and present metallurgical performance reports to management. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline required Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in mineral processing, preferably in gold recovery required In depth knowledge of milling processes, including grinding, leaching, and CIP circuits preferred Familiarity with metallurgical accounting practices and software preferred Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required Excellent leadership and communication abilities required Commitment to safety and environmental sustainability required
