Job Description

Please note this is a full time role working 38.5 hours per week, on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern - Week 1: 09:30 – 21:00 / Week 2: 10:30 – 22:00. 

Working as part of the senior path laboratory team to deliver accurate and timely results to our customers, to maintain quality standards and to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.

Adhering to documented procedures in the Quality System for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary records and quality data are maintained.Reading plates, confirmation and validation of analytical results as required.Run any equipment required for analysis such as PCR, Pathatrix and ELISA.Reporting and/or calculation of results in accordance with the methods of analysis.Maintain turnaround time at >99%, ensuring that daily targets are achieved.Responsible for ensuring that UK health and safety legislation is maintained and helping to ensure that the working environment is kept in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.Be familiar with laboratory FGS software, Understand and be able to implement processes relating to sample/test data entryEnsure personal protective clothing equipment is worn in accordance with the Health & Safety policy.Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.Detailed Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual.To assist through operating best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.To be present during external audits (UKAS/RSA etc.)To actively support the laboratory management team in the maintenance of the quality system and procedures within the path labProvide a high level of internal and external customer care.To assist the laboratory management team in the delivery of training for path lab staffTo undertake audits within the laboratory as and when required Advise Laboratory Manager without delay of any problems affecting operations in the laboratoryLiaise with Customers and customer service e.g. ASM’s to ensure relevant communication is given to customers in line with their SLA.

QualificationsDegree or equivalent in MicrobiologyStrong knowledge of path lab activitiesKnowledge of equipment used in the laboratory and be able to conduct daily calibrationsKnowledge of UKAS and ISO methodsCompetence in IT, including eLIMSKnowledge of customers and sample matrices, including specific requirements on how to handle the samplesExperience in NCW/Complaints/Environmental MonitoringFull commitment to meeting customer’s expectationA passion for providing a safe working environmentAbility to effectively communicate across departmentAbility to organise others to achieve TAT expectations
