Senior Microbiologist

We are looking for a Senior Microbiologist to join our Food Safety, Quality, & Regulatory Affairs team in either corporate office - Chicago, Illinois or Omaha, Nebraska.

As the Senior Microbiologist, reporting to the Microbiology Manager, you are part of a team that is an important part of the food safety and microbiology program at Conagra. You will collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Thermal Processing, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Consumer Affairs, Legal and Safety, and Operations to support our plants or supply chain operations as a leader for food safety and applied food microbiology. Travel will be up to 50% as needed. This is not a Microbiology Lab-based role.

Position Responsibilities

Help shape Conagra's strategic food safety vision according to our direction and focus.

Champion a positive food safety culture, takes ownership, and empowers others to take immediate action on matters concerning food safety.

Ensure we adopt best food safety practices, including pathogen environmental monitoring programs, food safety sampling and testing regimens, and the deployment of new methods.

Conduct portfolio risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.

Respond to food safety-related situations, providing guidance and direction.

Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Procurement, and Co-manufacturing Quality to address food safety issues and ensure adherence to standards across the Global Supply Chain.

Ensure the development and functioning of HACCP pre-requisite programs, including training, GMPs, and SSOPs, as part of Conagra's overall food safety system.

Guide and influence without direct managerial responsibilities

Position Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field required.

5+ years related industry experience. Graduate students with project experience within operations at a manufacturing plant will also be considered.

Food Safety experience (Pharma experience also considered) and previous manufacturing plant experience.

Knowledge of HACCP and related food safety systems, and government regulations (FDA/USDA/CDC/State and Local, and international).

Experience managing cross-functional and technical teams in food safety.

Excellent report writing skills and working knowledge of statistical and analytical tools

We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. periodically and work in cramped/confined spaces.

Use lab equipment and tools and climbing to multiple heights using stairs or ladders.

Exposure to manufacturing environments with loud noise, extreme temperatures, and slippery conditions for extended workdays.

Exposure to food tasting, smells, and all food allergens.

Compensation: 

Pay Range:$79,000-$115,000

The annual salary listed above is the expected offering for this position. An employee’s actual annual salary will be based on but not limited to: location, relevant experience/level and skillset, while balancing internal Conagra employees’ equity. Conagra Brands will comply with applicable law regarding minimum salaries for exempt employees.
