Senior Monitoring Officer

We’re looking for a reliable Shift Supervisor to join our team at our Alarm Receiving Centre in Glasgow.

When you’ll work

This is a full-time position with a rotational shift pattern.

You’ll work four shifts on and four shifts off, rotational day and night. Each shift is 12 hours.

About the role

As a Shift Supervisor, you’ll be the first point of contact in an emergency situation, responsible for supervising staff in the day-to-day running of the ARC.

This responsible leadership role will require you to have high levels of organisation, the ability to manage a team under pressure and vigilant attention to detail in all aspects of alarm activation monitoring, compiling reports and liaising with other Departments . Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.

Day to day duties

Supervising and supporting the ARC team, making sure alarm signals are responded to promptly, courteously and effectively. Acting as the first point of contact for the public, emergency services and clients.  Dealing politely and effectively with visitors, representatives and contractors. Monitoring CCTV equipment as and when required. Assisting the ARC Manager to develop and implement processes in line with regulatory requirements to support and train staff. Monitoring calls to assess standards of service and make improvements if necessary. Carrying out daily inspections in line with BS5979. Making sure technical faults are recorded and rectified to agreed timescales. Ensuring information remains confidential in accordance with relevant standards and procedures

Essential skills and requirements

The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people, even in pressurised situations. Previous supervisory experience in a busy call-handling environment.  Fantastic literacy and numeracy skills. Proven ability to write accurate reports to deadlines. The flexibility and stamina to stay alert and perform efficiently for long shifts, based on the needs of the business. Ability to comply with security screening to BS7858 standard.

Personal qualities

The ability to work on your own initiative and be able to prioritise your workload. Enjoy working as part of a team. The ability to work and concentrate under pressure. Excellent observation skills and ability to analyse visual information. Great attention to detail. Ability to write clear, legible and accurate reports of events which may be used as evidence. Ability to learn and be adaptable to changes in both working procedures and technology. Ability to be flexible in working hours. Proactive and self-motivated.

Nice to have (but not essential)

SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence . Knowledge of the alarm monitoring industry and reporting systems.
