Senior Net Zero Transition Policy Lead - 2 year fixed term contract
The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a global coalition of financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the economy in line with government commitments under the Paris Agreement. Over 675 financial institutions from 50 jurisdictions have individually committed to the goal of net zero by 2050, in line with science-based pathways to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C. GFANZ was established in 2021 as a forum for delivering sector-wide solutions for net-zero transition, helping to ensure high levels of ambition are met with credible action that support transition globally. GFANZ works to develop the frameworks and tools that the global financial system needs to support delivery on their individual net zero commitments. As an integral part of progressing this work, GFANZ engages with a broad set of public and private sector bodies. This includes regular engagement with international organizations, international standard setters, and national policymakers across the G7, G20 and beyond. 
We are looking for an experienced and effective senior policy engagement lead to join our Policy team to drive our work to engage with policymakers on what would do most to unlock progress on transition and transition finance. The role would entail identifying key regulatory and policy levers in the real economy as well as financial sector and undertaking analytical work and policy engagement to deliver change. This includes developing a deep understanding of national and international policy and regulatory developments, and the opportunities and challenges presented.  It involves ensuring that international and national policymakers are aware of GFANZ’s technical work and emerging market practices and the relevance of these to their policy priorities and financial regulation for net zero transition. The role also involves engaging with private financial institutions on their priorities and experiences with developing transition plans and providing transition finance and drawing out of the issues that warrant a policy response.  
We'll trust you to:Develop ideas for and deliver analytical work to support the policy measures needed to support progress on transition, including economywide transition planning, and to unlock transition finance;  Plan and deliver outputs in a way which takes into account the wider work GFANZ is supporting and delivering, key international event timings, intended deliverables and internal governance deadlines and necessary stakeholder engagement;Keep abreast of and find ways to support the work being carried out at the international level – including in the G7 and G20 and standard setters – as well as building up detailed technical expertise in the national policy frameworks being developed in a key set of countries; Support the delivery of structured and effective outreach to a broad set of public and private sector stakeholders to ensure our work is well understood, informed and situated, taking the lead in relation to some key stakeholders, and ensure that we are working collaboratively with others; Expectations:A strong understanding of the state of play on public and financial policy as it pertains to climate and net zero transition, gained through at least 5-8 years experience in financial and/or climate policy in the public and/or private sector; A demonstrated ability to show thought leadership and to plan and deliver policy-based work underpinned by high quality and at times technical analysis and informed by effective stakeholder engagement;A self-starting, well organized and creative approach to developing policy project ideas and ensuring that a robust delivery plan is developed and executed on time; Strong written and verbal communication skills such that you can discuss complex policy with a broad set of senior through to technical stakeholders across a diverse set of countries and contexts, and across public and private sector; A track record of effective engagement on complex policy issues to understand and reconcile the perspectives of a diverse set of stakeholders from international organisations and technical bodies, national policymakers, financial institutions and the voluntary sector; Strong team player, willing to develop strong relationships, and to pitch in and support work across our global team as and when needed.
