Your New Role…

Conceptualize breaking news and continuing coverage from Hub reporters and Domestic field teams. Guide and direct reporting plans and pursuits. Serve as a front-line editor of internal alerts and digital articles. Help sharpen and elevate copy.

Your Role Accountabilities…

Take top-to-bottom editorial management of priority stories – including directing and involving yourself in the reporting and clearing of editorial and elements.Conceptualize coverage and help shape sharp, discrete angles and ideas to advance storylines; think about where the story is going — and help CNN’s coverage get there. Sharpen and elevate copy, helping CNN journalists write clearly and contextually, with elevation and elan; our writing should be engaging, declarative and accessible, even during breaking news; we should write within a range of formats, from narratives to explainers, and our straight news coverage should have sweep.  Assign reporting targets while story-managing and be involved in the hands-on execution of those reporting efforts.Identify the most significant headlines within news developments; focus on the framing. Monitor and lead the competitive landscape on those stories and serve as the network’s subject matter expert Fill in as a shift supervisor on the National News HubProvide feedback and guidance to reporters (and other editors, where relevant) at every step to enhance the quality of our work.  Must be willing to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications & Experience…

At least 8 years of progressively complex editorial experience At least 3 years of management experience A college degree or equivalent industry experience Experience helping reporters frame their stories for a national audienceExperience managing coverage of fast-moving breaking news stories under deadline pressure

Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $95,550.00 - $177,450.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
