Perform most complex tasks related to the production processes according to department guidelines, acts as a subject matter expert on all functions related to the Optical Technician job
Perform and/or oversee Inspection functions related to the production process according to department guidelines; assists with the analysis of surface/finishing reworks and breakage
Perform and/or oversee inspection functions related to the production manual process (ANSI)
Research and resolve issues related to internal performance of the department
Assist, cooperate, and communicate with appropriate departments to resolve production & workflow issues
May assist with ordering lab supplies, working with vendors for all consumables; troubleshoots issues/problems with suppliers
Verify all lens specifications are met according to all Lab and Z80 standards, including, but not limited to, optical measures, lens materials, fitting measurements, thickness, cosmetic quality, and any extra features such as tinting, anti-reflective coating, etc.
Preproduction /Dr. Service call functions including calling customers/vendors to explain issues/problems with lens orders
Blocking calibration functions including operating equipment to perform blocking, blocking aid, and blocking set-up
Analyze lens rejects to determine root cause; log determination; log determination and results
Evaluates and identifies trends on the rejects & breakages involving Rx sent to subcontractor vendor
Shipping functions including efficiently working with time sensitive shipments
Maintain lens, frame, and processing parameters with Lab Management Systems (DVI)
Changes chemicals on hand coating units
Work with business partners, root cause information and process improvement methodology to prevent future errors
Maintain unit standards, processes, and procedures to ensure efficient, accurate and measurable results
Maintain awareness of and meet all unit criteria, i.e., production standards, procedures, etc.
Assist in training other department employees
Keep up to date on all safety and evacuation procedures; maintain company safety standards
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Two to four years of experience in a production/manufacturing, fast-paced environment
Two to four years of experience working in an optical laboratory or related environment
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the functions of all Optical Technician jobs
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of PCs and databases
Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet applications
Experience working in a fast-paced environment
Ability to meet department standards for productivity and quality
Ability to read and write at a level necessary to accomplish the above tasks
Good manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination
Ability to recognize and distinguish colors
Ability to perform physical activities requiring bending, kneeling and pulling/pushing
Ability to understand and follow procedures
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
Ability to walk or stand up to 100% of the time

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
