Senior Oracle Database Administrator

Position Description:

Qualified candidate must have advanced knowledge of Oracle software version 11G and will be responsible for managing all aspects of Oracle including performing installation and configuration of Oracle software version 11G on the HP UNIX platform. Qualified candidate must be able to assist UNIX/LINUX administrators with configuration changes to the HP UNIX/LINUX operating systems for both the RISK platform and the Itanium platform as they apply to the Oracle software.

Candidate must have strong technical expertise for upgrading Oracle databases. Qualified candidates will have senior knowledge related to the installation, configuration, and management of all aspects of the Oracle special add-on products (e.g. Enterprise Manager System, Internet Directory, Warehouse Builder, Real Application Cluster, Data Guard, Enterprise User Security, Partitioning Product, and SQL Client).

Candidate must develop detailed build and upgrade documents, as well as MS Project plans.

Skills Requirements:

Expert ability to troubleshoot and determine problems at a high level using system dumps, system traces, log files, ability to contact correct level of Oracle support using Metalink;

Expert ability in creating primary database storage structures (tablespaces), creating new database objects (tables, views, indexes);

Expert ability to create job flows using ControlM software;

Expert ability Perform database reorgs, export/imports, SQL tuning for developers;

Expert ability to write UNIX/LINUX shell based scripts to monitor database integrity, server stability, security and intruder detection alerts, and system resources;

Expert ability to use RMAN to configure and restore database;

Expert ability to create detailed build and upgrade documents as well as project plans.

Candidate will be required to be on call 24 x 7 (every six weeks) and will be required to keep and maintain a beeper to be responsive to calls;

****Candidate will be required to travel to either Durham, NC or Carlstadt, NJ for Disaster Recovery

exercise support (up to 2 weeks per trip);

Working knowledge of MS Project;

Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to this project, including the ability to articulate and write in English in a clear and concise manner.

Desired Skills

Experience working as a government contractor;

Experience working in an ITIL based and/or CMMI oriented organization;

Knowledge of third part S/W including: Sterling Commerce Connect:Direct, Micro Focus Cobol, Computer Associates – Access Control, BGS Patrol, and Veritas Net Back-up.

 

CANDIDATES need to have either a BS or MS with 11 years experience in Computer Science or equivalent. Experience can be a combination of either U.S. or overseas, part time or in college
