SUMMARY  
 

The Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for managing and optimizing Oracle databases across on-premises and cloud environments for a global organization. This role requires extensive knowledge and practical experience in database operations, including installations, upgrades, migrations, high availability, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

 

The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership in areas such as database design and architecture, security, performance tuning, and capacity planning, ensuring optimal performance and reliability for mission-critical applications.

 

Proven track record in:

Methodical troubleshooting of complex database performance and functionality issues Deep knowledge on tuning of SQL queries and other functions that place heavy load on the database Overall tuning and optimization of Oracle system performance for both on-premises and cloud-based deployments Providing detailed and well researched answers to CIO in a timely manner

 

This role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, database optimization, and strategic planning, ensuring seamless database operations while aligning with business objectives. 

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  

 Database Management:

Manage all Oracle database instances, including 24x7 operations of customer-critical database systems Proactively ensure optimal availability and performance of the database systems  Create, implement and support on-premises and cloud-based database solutions Provide guidance on architecture, data modelling, database design and infrastructure Design and implement highly available, redundant database solutions Generate standard operating procedures for database operations in order to standardize all relevant database activities

 

Database Application Support:

Provide support for database applications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database solutions Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly Undertake regular refreshing and/or cloning of production and/or non-production environments as required Support code or release deployment process

 

Performance Tuning:

Perform system and query tuning to optimize database performance Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks Implement best practices for database performance and scalability

 

Patching and Security:

Plan and support internal projects such as database patching, migrations and upgrades Accountable for database security and integrity Ensure compliance with security policies and standards Assist in designing backup, recovery and DR strategies Investigate and implement new features within continuous service improvements process Facilitate audit discoveries and remediation activities

 

Monitoring and Maintenance:

Utilize and maintain SQL monitoring tools Conduct regular health checks and performance assessments Conduct capacity planning and growth projections Propose and develop automated solutions for routine database processes, tasks, and procedures to improve efficiency

 

Additional:

Acts as the senior escalation point for all issues relating to Oracle Follow operational policies and processes that are compliant with ITIL standards Track projects and system incidents through to resolution via the IT ticket tracking system and the various IT Logs Maintain qualifications and continuous learning relevant to your role Other duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

7-10 years progressive Oracle DBA experience Post-Secondary education in IT or related discipline Expert level knowledge of Oracle Database versions 19c – 23ai Extensive hands-on experience in building and managing Oracle databases and related utilities and tools. Proven track record in troubleshooting complex database performance and functionality issues Deep knowledge on tuning SQL queries and other performance impacting functions Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Experience with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Data Guard, RMAN, and ASM Experience with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS R12), WebLogic, Concurrent Managers, and Workflow Management Experience designing, configuring and managing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) database solutions Possess strong security practices with regards to authentication, authorization, compliance, and encryption Cross platform knowledge between Oracle databases and Oracle EBS, MS SQL MongoDB, and/or other Experience managing database systems on physical, virtual and cloud environments (Azure, AWS) Experience with cloud-based Oracle solutions (OCI, AWS RDS, etc.) Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) for automation Good verbal and written communication skills (English) Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple, concurrent and conflicting priorities and deadlines Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast pace, dynamic environment Excellent customer service skills, with a clear understanding of customer impact and business requirement Technical writing including documentation of procedures

 

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Certified Expert (OCE) certification Certificate in one or more additional database systems (e.g. MongoDB, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Snowflake) – Preferred MS Azure SQL certifications – Preferred ITIL Foundation - Preferred
