Summary of Objective:

The Senior Package Designer would support PCI’s mission to provide the industry leading experience to clients, developing and commercializing solutions to optimize the delivery of lifesaving medicines and support better health outcomes for patients around the world.

Reporting to the Design Supervisor, the successful incumbent would work to support the development and launch of new package designs and existing package enhancements. Utilizing multiple CAD software platforms, practical packaging knowledge and hands-on assembly skills, Senior Package Designer would create and prepare structural packaging design solutions for PCI clients to support commercial sales efforts and specialized Design Services. The Senior Package Designer would regularly plan/coordinate and execute R&D and prototyping activities in the Design Lab.  The Senior Package Designer would also be expected to plan and oversee the workflows, training, development and outputs of Packaging Design Interns/Co-Ops and maintain reliability of on-site prototyping laboratory, including management of supplies and equipment safety/maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The essential duties and responsibilities include the following but other duties may be assigned.

Uses knowledge base to design, specify and implement new structural packaging designs. Coordinates design and/or develops packaging to extend customer's product life cycles and/or target marketing objectives. Ensures that new packaging designs, existing package improvements, specifications, and materials will conform to current operating methods and packaging machinery. Uses advanced CAD software to design individual packaging components and/or to create complete packaging systems/solutions. High proficiency in ArtiosCAD is required. Is expected to be a subject matter expert in folding carton design and manufacturing. Transfers designs to physical samples using appropriate methods and prototyping equipment while effectively managing lab resources. Uses standard methods and procedures to evaluate package designs. Engages customers to assess current packaging systems capabilities and makes recommendations for optimal solutions. Tests new packaging and materials to assess packaging performance and manufacturability. Coordinates feasibility tests; monitors results; compiles data and makes the appropriate recommendations. Continuously analyzes cost reduction opportunities in current package design, materials, and processing. Expected to develop best in class, innovative, patentable package designs. Tracks and understands current packaging trends in the industry. Works closely in collaboration with functional teams and stakeholders, including Sales & Marketing, Estimating, Project Management, Purchasing, Engineering, and others in the development of designs and establishes key deadlines and deliverables.  Supports internal corporate activities. Provides training and direction to Interns/Co-Ops and Jr. Designers as needed. Knowledge of and adherence to all PCI, cGMP, and GCP policies, procedures, rules. Required:

Bacheor's Degree in a related field and/or 7-10 years related experience and/or training.Basic Mathematical SkillsAdvanced Computer Skills: Ability to perform the most complex computer tasks and operate various computer programs.   Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.High Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where there is only limited standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions that may be provided in various forms.High Standard of Report WritingIt is expected Sr. Package Designer would have completed advanced training for CAD based design software ArtiosCAD.  Experience with Solidworks and graphic design and photo editing software such as the Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of packaging programs including production function and capability. Persons must be able to unassisted implement a packaging concept from initial model to delivered production component while exploring and resolving manufacturing conflicts.
