The Position

Senior Patent Counsel Core Lab/Dia in China

Job Summary:

Responsible for IP aspects for China [sites Suzhou and Dia Shanghai] related to our Diagnostics products with focus on Core Lab Customer Area. Support Business from IP perspective in close collaboration with the global Core Lab/Dia IP Team and local IP team, as well as with local and global business functions.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

The key accountabilities for this position include, but are not limited to, and each in close cooperation with the global Core Lab/Dia IP team and local IP team:

Provide IP counseling, guidance, and support in IP laws, with a focus on patent and trade secret protection.Represent patents, supporting the business and communicating with key stakeholders locally, such as Core Lab Lifecycle Team, Research & Development (R&D), Strategy, Partnering & Digital Solutions (SPD), Regulatory, Medical Affairs, and Legal etc., wherein the IP work includes IP term negotiation/development/review by working together with Legal/Partnering/the Business Teams, IP trainings, publication clearance, etc.Support in-house and in-licensed R&D projects from an IP perspective, including freedom-to-operate assessments and developing patent strategies with a close view on the Chinese diagnostics market considering international aspects.Provide local support for IP due diligence, prosecution, re-examination and invalidation proceedings, as well as patent infringement matters.Be responsible for all IP related employee matters / service invention matters.Manage the quality and cost of the external law firms.Follow up, assess and analyze the impact of IP, healthcare and digital related laws and regulations to our business and provide suggestions accordingly.Draft patent applications and manage the patent portfolio if needed.

Education/Qualifications:

Master in natural science (physics, chemistry, (bio)computer science, electrical engineering, biotechnology, biology or a similar field, preferably with a PhD), and a broad interest in science and technology, preferably in healthcare.Chinese patent attorney qualification.Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry.Strong interest in patent law and interdisciplinary matters with a desire to broaden horizons in the field.Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, both written and spoken.Strong analytical skills, ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.A well-structured, reliable and precise way of working, you are a team player with strong communication skills and a proactive approach, and with a high awareness of an intercultural setting.

Excellent leadership and communication skills, being able to lead and influence cross-functional teams within a complex global matrix environment.Consistent record of building collaborative relationships with peers and teams in intercultural setting, helping cross functional teams address strategic opportunities and solve problems across the organization.Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, navigate, manage and lead change.Commitment to the organization’s new way of working through greater collaboration and breaking down of silos. 

Travel:

To Germany and Switzerland in onboarding phase and as required for alignment with global Core Lab/Dia IP teamRegular travel between Shanghai and Suzhou
