Role Overview:

The Senior Payments Manager, Fraud and Disputes with the Payments team truly is a highly visible and highly impactful role. You’ll own developing and implementing strategies to detect, prevent, and mitigate fraud and first-party misuse risks associated with payment transactions while minimizing false positives from fraud screening.

You’ll analyze complex data sets, identify trends, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the security and integrity of our payment processes. Managing fraud and dispute vendors and holding them accountable to the highest standards and monitoring performance is also part of this role. This is an opportunity to utilize your expertise with subscription payments to work on projects and deliverables that are central to the company’s success.

This role is based in the US as a remote position. We will only consider candidates currently in the US and are not offering relocation assistance at this time.

About the role:
•    Fraud Detection & Prevention: Design and enhance fraud detection models and algorithms to identify fraudulent transactions in real-time. You will assist in optimizing risk decisions in the third-party fraud platform by:
•    Reviewing and validating the performance of the machine learning model
•    Creating and reviewing fraud rules to complement the model or to support business policy rules
•    Providing feedback to the model to continually improve its efficacy
•    Dispute Deflection and Management: Develop targeted dispute representment strategies to maximize success and profitability
•    First-party Misuse: Follow the customer journey to find areas for improvement to reduce first-party misuse and fraud claims. Manage multiple projects focused on preventing disputes and first-party misuse fraud claims
•    Data Analysis: Utilize advanced analytics and statistical tools to analyze transaction data, uncover patterns, and provide actionable insights. Develop and present comprehensive reports on fraud trends, risk exposures, and mitigation strategies to senior management
•    Incident Response: Work closely with external payments partners and vendors, including issuers, PSPs, and card networks to ensure best practices are in place
•    Collaboration: Work closely with product, technology, compliance, and legal teams to ensure alignment on fraud prevention strategies and regulatory requirements
•    Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging threats, and best practices in fraud prevention and risk management
 
About you:  
•    At least 5 years (we’d love more!) of experience in fraud prevention, dispute management, risk management, or related roles, with a focus on subscription payments. 
•    Must have deep knowledge of and hands-on experience with card brand fraud and dispute rules, rates, and fees; understanding of PayPal fraud and dispute processes.
•    Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and experience with fraud detection and dispute deflection vendors (Signifyd, Sift, Kount, Verifi, Ethoca, Chargeback Gurus, etc.).
•    Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Risk Manager) are a plus
•    BA/BS/BBA degree in Finance, Business, Data Science, or related field is preferred; or 5+ years’ experience in payments, ideally direct to consumer, recurring payments
•    Analytical Thinker: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
•    Stellar Communicator: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly
•    Team Player: Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
