The Opportunity with McKinstry
We are adding a Senior Payroll Accountant to our growing Finance and Accounting division in Seattle, WA to process union/staff payroll on a weekly basis.
To succeed, you must be analytical, customer-focused, and knowledgeable of national and regional laws on payroll and taxes. Your primary responsibility will be to issue employee payments, considering deductions and withholdings. You will contribute to various payroll tasks, such as updating payroll files, process garnishments, union reporting, labor transfers. Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include:
Act as subject matter expert on payroll, including troubleshooting and responding to internal questions. May process Staff or complex Union payrolls Read & apply union contract provisions Organize detailed requirements per union Prepare supporting documentation and/or information for internal/external audits. Prepare supporting documentation and/or information for union audits. Compile statistical payroll related data as needed Assist with reconciling payroll general ledger accounts. Research discrepancies in payroll information. Analytic reviews of weekly payroll postings. Document and updates Payroll procedures. Analyze payroll input for reasonableness and anomalies that may indicate errors in payroll data, the system set up, or interfaces. Ensure compliance with established accounting practices and all regulatory requirements. Maintain an advanced understanding of the payroll-related tax regulations. Prepare all monthly/quarterly governmental reports. Prepare weekly/monthly payroll tax payments. Promote teamwork and a positive approach to working within a team. Perform other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or equivalent required. Two to Three years of payroll processing and payroll tax filing and compliance issues required. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Advanced skills in data analysis required. Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required. Strong organizational & time management skills & the ability to appropriately prioritize & manage several diverse projects simultaneously with excellent attention to detail required. Ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment to make the decision needed to ensure an accurate compliant outcome required. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.PeopleFirst Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58,410 - $94,100 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
