Senior Payroll Specialist

Responsibilities:As a Senior Payroll Specialist at Verdantas, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the payroll processes to ensure accurate and timely payment of wages. Your role will involve:
•Collecting and Verifying Timesheets:
o Ensuring all employee work hours are accurately recorded for regular and prevailing wage projects.
o Reviewing timesheets according to California law on a weekly basis.
•Employer Credit for Prevailing Wage Benefits:
o Updating employer credit when there are changes in employee benefits before time is posted.
•Special Processes:
o Running special payroll processes weekly.
•Data Entry:
o Importing payroll data into the system, including hours worked, overtime, double time, and reimbursements on a biweekly basis.
•Calculating Pay:
o Using payroll software to accurately compute wages, bonuses, and other compensation based on hours worked and other factors.
•Processing Payroll:
o Issuing direct deposits to employees on a scheduled basis as well as off-cycle final pays.
•Handling Deductions:
o Managing deductions for taxes and other withholdings.
•Maintaining Records:
o Keeping accurate and confidential payroll records pre and post payroll.
•Responding to Inquiries:
o Addressing employee questions and resolving payroll discrepancies.
•Compliance:
o Ensuring payroll processes comply with federal, state, local, and prevailing wage regulations.
•Generating Reports:
o Preparing payroll reports, including certified payroll.
•Financial Reconciliation:
o Reviewing payroll entries and making necessary journal entries monthly.
Qualifications: Minimum of 10 years of experience in payroll management Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Extensive knowledge of payroll software and systems. Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including prevailing wage laws Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations Ability to handle confidential information with integrity. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the civil and environmental industry Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation Experience with VantagePoint Experience with Workday
