Title: Senior Payroll Tax Specialist
Location: Clayton, MO
Salary: $96,000 - $145,000
Schedule: Hybrid schedule available of up to 1 day remote per week
Focus: The Senior Payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reporting and remittance of payroll taxes and required payroll filings (W-2, 1099, 940, 941, and 945) in accordance with IRS and state regulations in the United States. You will prepare, record and analyze payroll-related general ledger accounts in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). You will also assist with payroll-related projects and serve as a subject matter expert with respect to payroll tax compliance.
Senior Payroll Tax Specialist Essential Job Functions:
Compile, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate all payroll tax filings. Coordinate and monitor tax service-related activities: adjustments, amendments, W-2c requests, agency notices, and funding items. Perform all quarter-end and year-end compliance activities including file reconciliation, adjustments, and W-2, 1099-R, and 1099-MISC distribution for the active employee population and pension trust. Establish and maintain procedures for payroll tax compliance with regulatory agencies. Responsible for the update of state unemployment insurance (SUI), state income tax (SIT), and federal/state/local account numbers, deposit frequencies to third party tax provider and SUI rates. Exercise accounting control over all payroll-related general ledger accounts including processing all payroll journal entries, reclassifications and account reconciliation and identify areas for improvement. Possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of tax, accounting, internal controls, and payroll processes on a daily basis. Provide support to leadership as required and provide backup for other payroll team members. Position expected to have or develop general knowledge and understanding of all payroll operations. Ability to assist and own payroll-related projects within area of expertise. Senior Payroll Tax Specialist Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree* in Finance or Accounting. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Payroll. Payroll tax experience and knowledge of Workday and SAP strongly preferred. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Superior leadership, communication, organizational, time management, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
